Ted Sperling, Artistic Director of MasterVoices, announced details of the acclaimed ensemble's 78th season, celebrating the joy of choral singing and the power of the human voice to unite, inspire and connect since 1941. Highlights include three major musical presentations at top venues, including a New York premiere, and the World Premiere of a new work, commissioned by the Company. Throughout the season there will be collaborations with leading singers, artists, ensembles and organizations, some who are familiar with and others who are new to the Company.

The GRAMMY Museum® Grant Program announced today that $200,000 in grants will be awarded to 15 recipients in the United States to help facilitate a range of research on a variety of subjects, as well as support a number of archiving and preservation programs. Research projects include work on musical anhedonia, musical training's relationship to complex memories, and the relationship between cognitive function and singing accuracy. Preservation projects include the archiving of uncirculated John Hartford jam tapes, 960 audio reels of Cajun and zydeco artists, and 221 rare interview recordings with African-American actors, performers, composers, musicians, and scholars, among many other preservation projects.

It was 1968 when literary giant Horace Mungin penned his first published work, 'Dope Hustler's Jazz,' part one of a two volume set of anti-drug poetry. 'Dope Hustler's Jazz' was the beginning of a writing career that started in the Black Arts Movement and would extend over five decades of literary contributions.

On Sunday afternoon, the Riverway Lobster House's main dining room was packed to capacity for the 42 Annual Joseph Daluz Unsung Hero Awards, as hosted by the Cape Cod Branch of the NAACP. Among those being honored was GroovaLottos drummer, Eddie Ray Johnson (Billie J Atkins, II) for his accomplishments and contributions to music as well as his dedicated mentoring work through Song Keepers, LTD.

Today's subject Julia Rhoads is currently living her theatre life as the founding Artistic Director of Lucky Plush Productions. Lucky Plush is a dance company that melds dance with theater, dialogue elements, and more. Their work entitled Rooming House can be seen at the Kennedy Center from May 2nd through May 4th in the Terrace Theater

Porchlight Music Theatre's final production in its 2018 - 2019 'lost' musicals in staged concert series is Porchlight Revisits Minnie's Boys,  with book by Groucho Marx's son Arthur Marx and Robert Fisher, music by Larry Grossman and lyrics by Hal Hackady with direction and choreography by Christopher Pazdernik and musical direction by Christie Chiles Twille.  Porchlight Revisits Minnie's Boys is presented for three performances Wednesday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, March 23 at 2 p.m. and  7:30 p.m. at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Composer Joan Tower, one of America's most significant living composers, will receive the League of American Orchestras' highest honor, the Gold Baton, at the League's 74th National Conference in Nashville, June 3-5, 2019.

On Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 7:30pm, Bang on a Can will present the 2019 Bang on a Can People's Commissioning Fund (PCF) concert, one of the most anticipated and reliable launching pads for composers in New York and beyond. In 1989, Jonathan Larson, a 29-year-old composer, began working on a musical adaptation of Puccini's La Boheme. Set amid the late 1980's, early 90's in New York City's East Village the musical would tell the story of a makeshift bohemian family of artists navigating poverty, homelessness, gay life, drug addiction and the AIDS epidemic.

The 24 Hour Plays announced that they will once again partner with Bennington College in a one-night-only benefit, The 24 Hour Plays: A Bennington Tribute to Nicky Martin and Spencer Cox on Monday, January 21st at 8:00 PM at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York City.
