Roundabout Sets Works, Directors for 2017 Underground Reading Series

Celebrating 10 seasons of Roundabout Underground, Roundabout Theatre Company has announced the sixth annual Roundabout Underground Reading Series, a five-night event that includes nightly readings of new works written and directed by emerging artists, as well as post-show receptions. The Reading Series will feature new works by Saheem Ali, Emily Feldman, Alex Lubischer, Don Nguyen, Ming Peiffer and Michael Thurber.

Roundabout Theatre Company will conclude the world-premiere production of Jenny Rachel Weiner's Kingdom Come, directed by Kip Fagan, on Sunday, December 18. The cast features Crystal Finn (Layne), Carmen M. Herlihy (Samantha Carlin), Alex Hernandez (Dominick Aquendo), Socorro Santiago (Delores Aquendo) and Stephanie Styles (Suz) as part of Roundabout's 50th Anniversary season.

LOS NUTCRACKERS: A CHRISTMAS CARAJO A Latino Queer Comedic Christmas Play Returns to BAAD

BAAD! The Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance proudly presents Los Nutcrackers: A Christmas Carajo, written by Charles Rice-Gonzalez and directed by Luis Caballero. This marks the second year that the award-winning director of Off-Broadway hits La Lupe: My Life and My Destiny and DC-7 The Roberto Clemente Story steps in to helm the work. The play interweaves two holiday classics,The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol, and creates a queer, Latino play about a gay couple who go on a psychedelic trip through their lives one Christmas Eve. The play will be presented December 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 16, and 17 at 8pm; Saturday, December 10 at 3pm at BAAD!, 2474 Westchester Avenue in the Westchester Square section of the Bronx. With her trusty sidekick, Jimmy the Lobster, Calamaria travels to central Florida's premiere mermaid attraction, Weeki Wachee Springs, to reclaim her tail and save the oceans from Garbage Island. Inspired by the Twitter account @_floridaman, roadside Americana, sea shanties, and the truth about climate change, this dark musical comedy plumbs the depths of identity and obsession to explore the line between harmlessly ridiculous and deceptively dangerous.
