On the heels of joining Playwrights Horizons Resident Company Program, Musical Theatre Factory (MTF), under the direction of Founding Artistic Director Shakina Nayfack, has announced its first full season of programming since its founding in January 2014.

Urban Stages will kick off its 33rd season with the American Premiere of the award-winning drama Communion by celebrated Obie Award- winning, Canadian playwright Daniel MacIvor, who will direct the production.

After a nationwide search, Sarasota Opera is proud to announce that composer/librettist Rachel J. Peters has been commissioned to compose Sarasota Youth Opera's next world premiere. Ms. Peter's opera, Rootabaga Country, which is being written now and will have its premiere in November 2017, was selected over 12 other submissions. This will be the sixth opera commissioned by the Sarasota Youth Opera program.

Custom Made Theatre Company opens its 18th season in San Francisco with Chess, the legendary rock opera from Tim Rice ("Evita","Jesus Christ Superstar") and Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, members of the celebrated pop group, ABBA. Set towards the end of the cold war, Chess uses politics and sport as metaphor for a love triangle between an enfant-terrible American superstar (loosely modeled on Bobby Fisher), his Hungarian-born lover/second, and a Soviet player looking to start a new life.

Music Director Matt Ray will join Mac for the work-in-progress performances, which span three decades from Mac's wildly ambitious, multi-year effort to chart the history of popular music in America, from the nation's founding in 1776 to the present day. Tickets are available for $35 through July 15, and $40 after, at www.spaceonryderfarm.org/calendar/taylor-mac.

"Leave your troubles outside…" as Cabaret take the stage in its Cape Playhouse premiere, directed by Hunter Foster. With book by Joe Masteroff based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb, it runs August 9 - 20.  Press night is set for Tuesday, August 9 at 7:30 pm.

YALE SCHOOL OF DRAMA announces the retirement of Professor Adjunct Edward A. Martenson, Chair of the Theater Management Department, effective June 30, 2017, and the appointment of Professor Adjunct Joan Channick, who currently serves as Associate Dean, as the new Chair, effective July 1, 2017.

The 2016 San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, which this year features more than 400 dancers and musicians from 32 top Bay Area dance companies representing more than twenty world cultural traditions, 12 world premieres, and two North American premieres, concludes with Weekend 3 June 18 and 19 at the historic Palace of Fine Arts Theatre. 

The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival's 18th season continues on June 19th at 7:30 pm with a performance of the Schubert Trout Quintet and chamber music by Gaubert, Mahler, and Schulhoff. The concert, which will be held in the ballroom of the Otesaga, features Linda Chesis, flute; Mikhail Kopelman, violin; Anat Almani, viola; Jerry Grossman, cello; Jeremy McCoy, bass; and Elizaveta Kopelman, piano.

The 70th Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 12th at 8/9c hosted by James Corden. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. We can't help but wonder what chances this year's Best Musical and Best Play nominees have of taking home the ultimate prize.
