Composer Ned Rorem Dies At Age 99

American composer and writer Ned Rorem passed away at age 99 on November 18, 2022 in New York City, in his home on the Upper West Side, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by six nieces and nephews and eleven grand nieces and nephews.

Fretted Buffalo to Present France's Guitar Master Pierre Bensusan Concert & Workshop This Month

Pierre Bensusan's 2020 North American tour was in full swing when the pandemic shut it down causing him to return home to France. He's making up for lost time with an extensive North American tour that will bring him back to Buffalo in concert at Trinity Episcopal Church on October 12th at 7pm. The preceding day he will be teaching a workshop for intermediate to advanced guitarists at The Fretted Buffalo.

John Mellencamp Sets 76-Night 'Live and in Person 2023' North American Tour

Delaware County Dance Film Festival Returns This July & August

The Andes Dance Collective, founded by dancer/choreographers Gloria McLean, Columbine Macher, David Capps and composer/performer Marshall Coid, presents the DELAWARE COUNTY 2ND DANCE FILM FESTIVAL AND WORKSHOP, bringing new dance and music events to the Catskills Delaware County region.  This year, in two 4-day weekends, July 21-24 and August 4-7, the Festival will include two live dance/music performances (premieres), film screenings, and dance workshops.

There is big news for Big Cherry! BroadwayWorld has just learned that Steppenwolf's production of The Minutes by Tracy Letts, directed by Anna D. Shapiro, will return to Broadway opening exactly one year after its original opening date of Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the Cort Theatre (138 W 48th Street). The Minutes was a limited engagement and was originally scheduled to close Sunday, July 26.

Broadway Rewind: ROAD SHOW Bounces Its Way to the Public Theater!

With Stephen Sondheim celebrating his 90th birthday, this episode of Broadway Rewind is very special for BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge because it us to the opening night of the Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman tuner Road Show at The Public Theater. It was directed and designed by John Doyle and starred Michael Cerveris and Alexander Gemignani. Cerveris told Ridge about this new version of the material,  'I saw Bounce in Washington so that was my first exposure to the material, but this really isn't a reexamination of that source material, it's an entirely new musical. So, when I saw the new draft that Stephen and John had done, it was really exciting.'

To celebrate the upcoming revival of David Mamet's American Buffalo, directed by Neil Pepe, a limited number of specially priced tickets will be made available on Thursday, February 20 at the Circle in the Square Theatre box office (235 W 50th Street). These one-time only prices are commensurate with the cost of a ticket to one of the play's previous productions, including the 1977 world premiere staging where American Buffalo received the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best American Play.

Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, will present its 45th annual Thunderbird American Dancers Dance Concert and Pow Wow from January 24 to February 2, 2019. There will be dances, stories and traditional music from Native Peoples of the Northeast, Southwest and Great Plains regions. The event, emceed by Bessie-winner Louis Mofsie (Hopi/Winnebago), has become a treasured New York tradition for celebrating our diversity by honoring the culture of our first Americans.

The Art of Justice is an interactive conference series on the intersections of art, activism, and cultural equity. CCCADI is  located at 120 East 125th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues.
