The year is 1940. The place is a small town in Indiana. Ralphie Parker is convinced that his life will not be complete unless he gets a Red Ryder Carbine Action BB gun for Christmas. His mother says absolutely not - "You'll shoot your eye out" - and so, with only 24 days 'till Christmas, Ralphie searches desperately for a way to change her mind.

Luke Frazier and The American Pops Orchestra , Washington, DC's innovative hometown orchestra, will open their all-star 2016-2017 season with I'll Be Seeing You: A World War II Love Story on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11th.  The show stars  stars Broadway and TV favorite Ron Raines, as well as Florence Lacey, Claybourne Elder, and Rachel Eskenazi-Gold.

When asked about the line up for the upcoming season, Hogan said 'Happy Birthday Canada - this season is dedicated to you. We wanted to give back to our great nation that has made us feel glorious and free. Everything in this season is written, composed, compiled, choreographed, directed, performed and/or put together by Canadians. We are thrilled to celebrate Canada.' Director of Cultural Services for the Town of Petrolia, Richard Poore echoed Hogan's sentiments, saying, 'I am so pleased and proud to be part of the 2017 VPP Summer Season announcement. I know our audiences will continue to be thrilled by the VPP experience.'

Aquila Theatre, in its 25th anniversary season, stages two fun, fresh performances at Lakewood Cultural Center, Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19. The weekend begins with Shakespeare's great comedy, 'Much Ado About Nothing,' where spying, subterfuge, deception, false identities, slander, manipulation and love all take part in this wonderfully entertaining battle of the sexes. Modernized in true Aquila Theatre style, this performance boasts just a three-member cast, presenting the production's 19 characters in a fun, frenzied two hours. Additionally, this performance is part musical, with the cast members singing along to upbeat, modern-day hits such as Foreigner's 'I Want to Know What Love Is' and Falco's 'Der Kommissar.'

Following a critically acclaimed season in the UK, Mr. Popper's Penguins comes to The New Victory for its American debut from today, October 14, through October 30, 2016.

Frances Seymour Fonda, actor Henry Fonda's second wife, was only 32 years old when the theater she commissioned architect Arthur W. Hawes to build opened in December of 1940. Originally known as the Westwood Theater, it was designed to be a performance space for live productions and for a short time it did fulfill that mission. Across town, movie musicals like Busby Berkeley's Strike Up the Band and Down Argentine Way were becoming box office hits as Tinseltown capitalized on the popularity of established young stars such as Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney and soon-to-be stars like pin-up girl Betty Grable and Carmen Miranda.

Guerilla Opera is all fun and games in their 10th anniversary season, featuring a new production of Loose, Wet, Perforated with music and libretto by Nicholas P. Vines in September 2016 and the world premiere of Play, the Game or Game, the Play with music and libretto by composer and theater artist Rick Burkhardt in May 2017.

This weekend the Montevallo Main Street Players present A 1940's RADIO VARIETY SHOW, featuring CASABLANCA. With only two more chances to see this show, August 13 at 7:30 and August 14 at 2, I would say if you want to step back to a simpler time call 665-9207, extension 6 for reservations. Although there was a good crowd Friday night, I would think you could take the chance and just head to Montevallo for a fun night out.

Wilton's Music Hall today announces its exciting new season programme, which sees the world's oldest surviving grand music hall welcome a diverse range of work, shining a spotlight on live music and bespoke theatre productions. Highlights include Sadie Frost starring as Gypsy Rose Lee in world premiere BRITTEN IN BROOKLYN and musical FLOYD COLLINS, which tells the story of a 1920s Kentucky cave explorer.

Last year at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, I discovered CAC Studios and their own unique brand of musical theatre entertainment, musically directed by Dan Sugi who also acts and sings up a storm. So when I discovered his first full length musical creation BROADWAY NOIR was having its world premiere at Fringe this year, you can be sure I was there to see it on opening night. And the musical genius has outdone himself on this one! Continuing in the immersive style which first pulled me into his shows, Sugi's BROADWAY NOIR is being presented in the intimate backroom cabaret space at 3 Clubs, located at 1123 N. Vine Street in Hollywood, just a few steps north of Santa Monica Blvd., the famous hangout of Frank Sinatra during Hollywood's heyday. The environment totally lends itself to the time period of the piece when bedazzled ladies and their well-heeled gents spent late nights hanging out and drinking with famous Hollywood stars.

Arkansas Repertory Theatre announced today that Anna Kimmell has been named the theatre's new Director of Education. Kimmell is currently Director of Education at Mill Mountain Theatre in Roanoke, VA, a position she has held since June 2013. She is expected to begin work at The Rep in mid-August. 

The new season at Sheffield Theatres includes an exciting line-up of West End and Broadway musicals, witty comedy, chart-topping music, poignant drama and family fun. Booking for the new shows will open to Centre Stage Members on Saturday 11 June and to the general public on Saturday 18 June.

The Drama Book Shop welcomes an acclaimed cast, comprised of actors from the original New York production and from the play's Bermuda premier, for a reading of Steven Carl McCasland's play Little Wars. The 12:30pm reading will take place in the shop's downstairs Arthur Seelen Theatre. It will be followed by a signing with the playwright.
