Aquila Theatre, in its 25th anniversary season, stages two fun, fresh performances at Lakewood Cultural Center, Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19. The weekend begins with Shakespeare's great comedy, "Much Ado About Nothing," where spying, subterfuge, deception, false identities, slander, manipulation and love all take part in this wonderfully entertaining battle of the sexes. Modernized in true Aquila Theatre style, this performance boasts just a three-member cast, presenting the production's 19 characters in a fun, frenzied two hours. Additionally, this performance is part musical, with the cast members singing along to upbeat, modern-day hits such as Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is" and Falco's "Der Kommissar."

The fun continues on Saturday with "Murder on the Nile" at 7:30 p.m. This brilliant production employs a new style, staging the classic whodunit in 1940's London with a BBC recording studio as the set. A glowing review from DC Metro Theater Arts says, "This radio production in 1941 London is in the midst of 'the Blitz,' and bombs have started falling on the city. Three actors: Lincoln Hudson, Palmyra Mattner, and Toby Miller, playing BBC radio actors, have discovered that they are the only ones to have made it to the studio, and they alone must portray the entire dramatis personae of this play. They must play all the characters and the show must go on." With a stunning design and expertly brilliant actors, this new twist on an old classic is not to be missed!

These performances, and a daytime program based on "Much Ado About Nothing" for high school students, received support from Colorado Creative Industries; WESTAF, the Western States Arts Federation; and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Founded in London by Peter Meineck in 1991, Aquila Theatre had its first production in the United States in the form of a touring production of Aeschylus' "Agamemnon." The company went on to build up an extensive international touring circuit, moving to New York City in 1999 to become an established part of the New York Theater scene. Aquila is now one the foremost producers of touring classical theater in the United States with an international reach, visiting 50-60 American cities each year and traveling abroad with a program of two plays, workshops and educational programming. The company has performed at the White House on two separate occasions. Aquila has also received a Chairman's Special Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities for its innovative applied theater public programming. More at www.aquilatheatre.com.
