Multi Grammy Award-nominee violinist Philippe Quint celebrates his new album Chaplin's Smile, out Friday, January 11, 2019 on Warner Classics, with a international tour of concerts commemorating Charlie Chaplin's compositional talents as well as his encounters with the great composers of his day. Chaplin's Smile will be performed on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 12:15pm at the Chicago Cultural Center, presented by Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts, and later that day at 6:30pm in a free concert at the Chicago Women's Athletic Club.

On Friday, January 11, 2019, multiple Grammy Award-nominated violinist Philippe Quint makes his debut on Warner Classics with the release of his latest album Chaplin's Smile, a collection of Charlie Chaplin songs newly arranged for violin and piano. To commemorate the 130th anniversary of Chaplin's birth in 2019, Chaplin's Smile features Philippe Quint joined on two tracks by Quint's friend and frequent collaborator, violinist Joshua Bell. Over more than three years, Quint, in collaboration with arrangers Charles Coleman and Leon Gurvitch went through dozens of songs and soundtracks written by Chaplin to select the songs best suited for violin and piano.

On Today, December 14, 2018 digitally and January 4, 2018 physically, New Focus Recordings releases distantSong, the second album of the compositions of composer Reiko Füting. The album features works for voices and instruments performed by established young ensembles in both the United States and Europe, including AuditivVokal Dresden, Art d'Echo, loadbang, the Corrine Byrne:Kozar:Duo, Damask, and Oerknal. The compositions included are emblematic of Fu?ting's deeply humanistic approach to creative activity and a sensitivity to contemporary political issues.

The Nutmeg Ballet Conservatory will present the full-length version of the classic tale on the Warner Theatre's Main Stage December 15 and 16. All dance roles will feature trainees of The Nutmeg Ballet Conservatory, along with cameo roles performed by children from the Torrington School of Ballet. Cabaret is a 1966 musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Joe Masteroff. The original Broadway production became such a hit it inspired several productions and revivals in New York and premiered in London's West End in 1968. Cabaret, the film, was produced in 1972, directed by Bob Fosse, and starred Liza Minnelli, Michael York, and Joel Grey. The film is particularly known for Liza Minnelli's rendition of 'Cabaret', a song she would come to sing in concert halls worldwide. It became her trademark.

For Catherine Birdsong, the animated film version of The Little Mermaid - the 1989 Disney musical fantasy based on the story of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen - was the first movie she remembers ever seeing in a darkened cinema and it continues to elicit memories, to reverberate in her heart, particularly now that she finds herself in rehearsal for the debut of the stage musical at Nashville Children's Theatre.

This Saturday, September 22, medici.tv will broadcast the National Symphony Orchestra's 2018–2019 season opening gala concert live from the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Euphemistically referred to as “comfort women,” they typically ranged in age from 11 to 33 and were taken from Japanese colonies from Korea to Indonesia. Mobilized through forced recruitment, kidnapping, false employment offers or sale by family members and employers, they served in brothels supervised by the Japanese military. Seventy years after their imprisonment, the surviving “comfort women” still await an official apology from the government of Japan.
