From the sun baked Oklahoma Territory at the turn of the 20th century comes the Broadway classic, Oklahoma!, beginning April 11 with a press opening on Wednesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. Due to high demand, an additional week is now on sale through June 10. Featuring a powerful score by legendary duo Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs, Oklahoma! will be directed by Artistic Director and Jeff Award-winner Aaron Thielen (She Loves Me, Spring Awakening). Jeff Award nominee Alex Sanchez (Marriott Theatre: Newsies, Evita, On the Town, Mary Poppins) will choreograph, with Musical Direction and orchestrations by Jeff Award winner Ryan T. Nelson.

Opera Orlando returns to the intimate setting of the Alexis and Jim Pugh Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts for part of their 2018-2019 season. Three productions comprise The Opera on the Main Stage series as the company presents its third season of fully staged operas. Rubicon Theatre presents a timely and trenchant production of Shakespeare's tragedy KING LEAR as the centerpiece of the company's 20th Anniversary Season. World renowned pianist IDIL BIRET is to perform in London at the Cadogan Hall on May 13th in an evening titled 'Mythical Trips to Romantic Lands' in which she will present favourite works of two giants of the romantic era in music, Schumann and Rachmaninov. 

2018 marks the 200th Anniversary of Frankenstein's publication. Mary Shelley was just 18 years old when she started writing it, and all of 20 by the time the first edition came out. Never out of print since, this enthralling tale of a mad scientist, who creates a grotesque but intelligent creature from assembled body parts is not only a seminal work of gothic horror, but also one of the earliest examples of science fiction literature. British author, Brian Aldiss (who would later write an unauthorised sequel - Frankenstein Unbound), is one of many literary luminaries to make the case that Shelley's book should be considered the very first science fiction novel, because it 'turns to modern experiments in the laboratory' to inspire and rationalise its fantastic events. Giving rise to countless imitators, Frankenstein has also spawned hundreds of stage and screen adaptations over the years - probably the most well-known being James Whale's haunting 1931 movie version starring Boris Karloff in what would become an iconic interpretation of The Creature, and Kenneth Branagh's flashy 1994 film, which featured a sensitive 'method' interpretation of Frankenstein's tragic creation from Robert De Niro.

Love at first dance!  Forbidden passions, dangerous secrets and star-crossed fate combine in this exhilarating classic ballet that reveals the heart of Shakespeare's immortal love story, coming to Chrysler Hall April 20-22, 2018. From the tender balcony scene to the lovers' heart-breaking ends, Romeo and Juliet is dance at its most poignant and beautiful-and the opulent production by Britain's famed Birmingham Royal Ballet is doubly exciting for its dramatic choreography by the great Sir Kenneth MacMillan, lavish sets and costumes, and dancers who embody the young lovers and their noble families. Further distinguishing these Norfolk performances is the presence of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, who will perform the beautiful Prokofiev score live, making the experience a feast for the ears as well as the eyes.

The 5th Avenue Theatre is a vibrant hive of musical theater activity as the projects of NextFest: A Festival of New Musicals have started rehearsals this week. Based on the short story by Isak Dinesen (and made famous by the 1987 Academy Award-winning film), Babette's Feast will begin performances Wednesday March 14th at the Theatre at Saint Clement's (423 West 46th Street, between Ninth & Tenth Avenues) for an open-ended Off-Broadway engagement.  Opening Night is set for Sunday March 25th (5pm).  The performance runs 90 minutes with no intermission.

Nashville Children's Theatre, the nation's oldest professional theatre for young audiences will perform Mockingbird from March 1-18. Based on the award-winning book, Mockingbird provides a look at how a parent and his daughter with Asperger's syndrome cope with a tragic loss due to a school shooting.

Palo Alto Players, the Peninsula's first theatre company, announces its 88th season - featuring four Peninsula premieres and a re-imagined classic. This morning, Ringling College of Art and Design announced it has received its largest single gift and the first eight-figure gift since the institution was founded in 1931. The generous donation of $15 million was given by Board of Trustees' member Dr. Joel Morganroth and his wife Dr. Gail Morrison Morganroth.
