The Tony winner runs at the Long Island venue through October 29th excellently directed by Engeman vet Igor Goldin boasting an outstanding cast. And I know you are probably saying that there are showings of this everywhere you look. However, when you have a production like this, it definitely warrants another visit.

Citadel Theatre's 2016-17 season concludes with Christopher Durang's Tony Award®-winning Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Durang's comedy, an updating and mash-up of characters, plot devices and themes from Chekhov's four major plays, won the Tony for Best Production of a Play in the 2013 Tony Awards. Replacing the traditional Chekhovian country estate is the play's setting in a Bucks County, Pennsylvania farmhouse, complete with a cherry orchard of sorts. Vanya and his adopted sister Sonia, named for characters from Chekhov plays by their late professor parents, are living in the family home now owned by their actress sister Masha, who pays the bills.

This monumental piece of American history will be told in two parts over the course of two seasons. Astoria: Part One opens on the U.S. Bank Main Stage on January 20, with preview performances beginning January 14, and regular performances running through February 12. Select dates will be presented as part of Fertile Ground, a city-wide festival of new works held every January in Portland. Astoria: Part Two will be presented during the 2017-2018 season.
