Birdland Jazz Club and Birdland Theater are open this September with a full slate of nightly performances!

Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Rebecca Gilman will mark her 10th production at Goodman Theatre, her longtime creative home, with Swing State—directed by Tony Award-winner Robert Falls in their 6th collaboration over 35 years. Swing State appears October 7 – November 13 in the 350-seat flexible Owen Theatre.

ELIZABETH IRELAND McCANN, the iconoclastic Broadway producer who won nine Tony Awards during a 60-year career in theater, died after a bout with cancer on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, according to her longtime associate and friend, Kristen Luciani.  She was 90 years old. 

The Festival will take place in venues across the city and county, as well as at the newly reopened Festival Gardens where a brand-new Festival music weekend is announced in collaboration with Wild Paths - Garden Sessions. Festival Gardens will also see the return of the much-loved Garden Party over the middle weekend.

BAM today announced a new season—an ambitious mix of outdoor in-person programming and new virtual events—that is all about bringing live arts back to Brooklyn, and bringing Brooklyn’s creative spirit to the world. Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is pleased to announce a major gift of 46 artworks from Los Angeles-based collector, scholar, and advocate Gordon W. Bailey. The works encompass a variety of media including drawing, painting and sculpture, and join artworks Bailey gifted in 2016, increasing his total contribution to 60 objects. All but two of the 28 artists are new additions to PAMM's collection.

Inspired by the tenth century Persian epic 'Shahnameh' (The Book of Kings), it dramatizes the origin story from the tale with elaborate shadow puppets, multimedia and live actors. The production, which debuted at BAM in 2016 and was presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art the same year, returns to New York next month for two days only. It will be presented by Fictionville Studio September 7 and 8 at Kaye Playhouse, 695 Park Ave. (at 68th Street), for three performances only before it travels to China and Paris.

Dael Orlandersmith, "an intense poet, writer and intellectual" (Chicago Tribune), brings her newest work, Lady in Denmark, to the Owen Theatre. Reuniting with director Chay Yew (Black n Blue Boys/Broken Men, 2012), Orlandersmith's world premiere production is a reflection on love and adversity starring stage and screen actress Linda Gehringer in a 90-minute solo performance. Helene (Gehringer) is a Danish American woman coping with the death of her husband who finds solace in the hauntingly beautiful music of their favorite singer, Billie Holiday. This is her journey through the couple's time together-from the smoky jazz clubs of post-war Copenhagen to the home they shared in present-day Chicago. Lady in Denmark is one of five world premieres this season, all originally developed as a part of the Goodman's New Stages Festival. The creative team includes Andrew Boyce (set), Christine Pascual (costumes), Lee Fiskness (lighting) and Mikhail Fiksel (original music and sound). Donald E. Continuing the 120-year-old tradition of bringing music, oration and the arts to the Boulder community, the Colorado Chautauqua Association, steward of Boulder's cultural and historical gem the Colorado Chautauqua National Historic Landmark, is pleased to announce its 2018 Summer Concert Series. From Amos Lee and Andrew Bird, to Graham Nash, Ziggy Marley and Mary Chapin Carpenter, this year's lineup presents a diverse mix of performers across genres that appeal to every music fan. Laughter also returns to the stage with comedian Paula Poundstone and Boulder's own poet and activist Andrea Gibson.
