The New Jersey Youth Symphony (NJYS) announced today that two of its ensembles, the NJYS Jazz Orchestra and Charles Mingus Combo, are among twelve finalist ensembles in the 12th Annual Charles Mingus Festival & High School Competition, February 14-17 at The New School of Jazz and Jazz Standard in New York City.

The New Jersey Youth Symphony (NJYS) presents a concert focused on women composers featuring five of its ensembles on Sunday, January 26 at 4:00pm at Princeton University's Richardson Auditorium (68 Nassau Street, Princeton). The NJYS Youth Symphony led by Helen H. Cha-Pyo, Youth Orchestra led by Simon Lipskar, Fortissimo Flutes led by Diana Charos-Reilly, and CL4tet and Clarinet Ensemble led by Bryan Rudderow will perform works by Yvonne Desportes and Ann Holler as well as Julia Perry's Short Piece for Large Orchestra and Florence Price's Symphony No. 3 in C minor. World Music Institute (WMI) continues to celebrate its 34th year in NYC with a fresh roster of global artists for the Spring/Summer 2019-2020 Season.

The League of Professional Theatre Women (Shellen Lubin and Catherine Porter, Co-Presidents), an organization which has been championing women in the professional theatre for over three decades, will present an Oral History Project event with the legendary, five-time Tony Award-winning actress, Angela Lansbury on Thursday, November 14 starting at 6pm (doors at 5:30pm) in the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (111 Amsterdam Avenue at 65th Street). Shakespeare & Company recently appointed Susan Dibble as Interim Director for the Company's Center for Actor Training. Dibble, a Founding Member of Shakespeare & Company, is an educator and artist. Her movement work was seen on stage this past season in Twelfth Night and for the past four decades she has been faculty member for the training program, teaching at the Month Long Intensive, Summer Shakespeare Intensive (formerly the Summer Training Institute), and various workshops.

The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage's 2019/20 Celebrity Opera Series commences with Diana Damrau (soprano) and Nicolas Testé (bass) on Saturday, May 16, 2020. James Conlon, Music Director of the Los Angeles Opera (since 2006) and Principal Conductor of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in Torino, Italy (since 2016), conducts the orchestra.

 DOC NYC, America's largest documentary festival, announced the full lineup for its expanded tenth anniversary edition, running November 6-15 at the IFC Center in Greenwich Village and Chelsea's SVA Theatre and Cinépolis Chelsea. The 2019 festival includes 136 feature-length documentaries among over 300 films and events overall, making this landmark year DOC NYC's biggest edition yet. Included are 28 world premieres 27 US or North American premieres and 59 NYC premieres, with more than 500 doc makers and special guests expected in person to present their films or participate on panels. 

Renowned songwriter, producer, and arranger Bob Esty died on September 27, 2019 in Los Angeles, after a short battle with metastatic cancer. He was 72.

Tony Award nominee Jeff McCarthy will step in to replace previously announced Will Swenson in the title role in Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece musical thriller SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET in a co-production by The Noorda Center for the Performing Arts and Utah Repertory Theater Company onstage at Utah Valley University Oct. 24-Nov. 9.
