Ask any Jewish man, woman or child to describe a favorite memory and the response will likely to be a story about family, friends and food.  The sights, sounds, and smells all have special meaning, but it is memories of the tastes that bring the most smiles.  Food and Jewish life have been inseparable throughout history. The Old Testament says the Israelites celebrated their newfound freedom from the Pharaoh with a communal meal of roast lamb and herbs. Even since then, Jewish people and food have been linked symbolically and socially. "Ess my kind" is a universal anthem.  

Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) starts off 2017 with "The Making of a Great Moment," the world premiere comedy by ATCA/Steinberg award-winning playwright Peter Sinn Nachtrieb.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 2016/2017 season with Beth Henley's brilliantly imaginative tale of relationships, Crimes of the Heart. Three hard-luck sisters reunite in their small, pitiless Mississippi hometown, each nursing her own grudge. In a hurricane of hilarity and hurt, Lenny is turning 30, Meg is fresh from rehab, and Babe is out on bail. The boundaries of sisterhood are put to the test as each sibling comes to terms with her dreams gone awry. The New York Timessaid Crimes of the Heart "overflows with infectious high spirits." This Pulitzer Prize and NY Drama Critics Circle Award-winning play will be directed by Giovanna Sardelli. Crimes of the Heart will have performances January 11 - February 5, 2017 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St, Mountain View. The New York Philharmonic will present Beloved Friend - Tchaikovsky and His World: A Philharmonic Festival, January 24-February 11, 2017, featuring Russian-born Semyon Bychkov conducting works by Tchaikovsky as well as composers he was influenced by and whom he influenced, with piano soloists Yefim Bronfman and Kirill Gerstein.

The newest revival in regional theatre is currently at Cabrillo in Thousand Oaks until October 23 only. An operetta based on Eva Duarte Peron and husband Juan Peron of Argentina, the story documents the rise to power of a simple peasant girl to the rank - almost - of Vice-President of her country. Final performances of the Young Chekhov trilogy begin this autumn in the Olivier Theatre, and The Plough and the Stars is wrapping up at the Lyttelton. In addition, previews begin in the Lyttelton for The Red Barn on 6 October (press night on 17 October), and Amadeus starts previewing in the Olivier from 19 October, (press night on 26 October).
