René Buch, the co-founder and artistic director of Off-Broadway's Repertorio Español, has passed away at 94. The artistic leader, playwright, and director died April 19th at his home in New York.

Sam Shepard, who left this world in 2017, was an American playwright and actor whose plays adroitly blend images of the American West, pop motifs, science fiction, and other elements of popular and youth culture. His settings are often a kind of nowhere, notionally grounded in the dusty heart of the vast American Plains. His characters are typically loners, drifters caught between a mythical past and the mechanized present; his work often concerns deeply troubled families, lovers or friends. Two of his plays centering on loners at the end of their rope, THE UNSEEN HAND coupled with Shepard's gritty and audacious KILLER'S HEAD, joins Odyssey Theatre Ensemble's 50th Anniversary a?oeCirca '69a?? Season of significant and adventurous plays that premiered around the time of the company's inception.

Founding artistic director Ron Sossi directs a revival of The Serpent by Jean-Claude van Itallie a?" winner of the 1969 Obie award and arguably the most successful ensemble work ever created a?" as part of the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble's 50th Anniversary a?oeCirca '69a?? Season. Sossi previously directed the West Coast premiere exactly 50 years ago, in the spring of 1970, as the second production ever at the then brand-new Odyssey Theatre. The Serpent opens on March 7 at the Odyssey's current home in West L.A., where performances will continue through May 3.

Scottsdale Arts Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary March 13-15, 2020 and is an annual weekend-long celebration of creativity. The Festival attracts nearly 20,000 loyal visitors annually, where guests enjoy the best in visual, culinary, cultural and performing arts throughout the newly renovated 20-acre Scottsdale Civic Center Park. Nancy Carol Lewis Jones died peacefully on December 20, 2019 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City after a short illness.  She was born on the February 20, 1943 in Detroit to Mack and Carol Edith (nee Schulz) Lewis. She attended Cooke Elementary, Redford High, and Michigan State University, where she majored in TV and Radio Production. At MSU she was Campus Correspondent for Billboard and first became seriously interested in the British Music scene when she went to review a concert of The Dave Clark Five in Lansing.

50 years ago, in the summer of 1969, the only group in pop-culture that could claim to be bigger than John, Paul, George and Ringo were Neil, Buzz and Michael. But 50 years down the line, in 2019, only ONE of those SEVEN names is actually in danger of going extinct in the collective imagination of the public at large.

A new multi-space, multi-dimensional 42,000 sq. ft. art, entertainment and events destination, Epiphany Center for the Arts, 201 S. Ashland Ave., formerly the iconic Church of the Epiphany, will open this winter. One of the largest cultural venues in the city and a designated Chicago landmark, this architecturally significant property has been acquired in a multi-million-dollar transaction by Chicago Developer David Chase; he along with his wife, Kimberly Rachal have lovingly preserved the historic church and its adjacent buildings. The revitalization and renovation project, which houses artifacts from the church originally built in 1885, will feature three unique event spaces, a café, courtyard and other ancillary spaces to support the visual, performing and culinary arts. Epiphany Center for the Arts will once again become a place for the community to congregate, All for the Good of Art, Entertainment and Events.

Producer Suzi Dietz announced today that on the heels of its successful run in Los Angeles, Miss America's Ugly Daughter written and performed by Bess Myerson's only child, Barra Grant, will open in New York this winter. Miss America's Ugly Daughter is a darkly comedic, poignant two character solo show about the seismic mother-daughter relationship of Bess Myerson and Barra Grant and will be directed by Eve Brandstein.

After revamping Cats and taking on other iconic musicals like Fame, director and choreographer Nick Winston brings Mame back to the stage. The last time the UK saw the show (which has music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and a book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee) it was 1969 and Ginger Rogers was playing the lead role on Drury Lane. Now, 60 years later, Tracie Bennett is going to be Autie Mame at the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester.

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the nonprofit cultural center located at the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival in Bethel, N.Y., today announced that nine-piece band The Commonheart will perform with special guest The Outcrops in the Event Gallery on Sunday, November 3rd at 8:00 PM.
