Trumpeter and composer Wadada Leo Smith, one of the foremost figures in contemporary music, will perform a musical interpretation of artist Jack Whitten's Greek Alphabet paintings on Saturday, December 3 at 2 p.m. at Dia Beacon's museum galleries, 3 Beekman Street, Beacon, New York.

I have been in the audience at least once (most years twice) each season and am glad to report it gets better every year. I don’t know if it is the witches and goblins of Halloween or the creative genius of Nick Padgett the Artistic Director that makes it unique each year, but it is the time of year for magic.

Carnegie Hall celebrates the start of its 2022–2023 season with an Opening Night Gala concert on Thursday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. featuring The Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Acclaimed pianist Daniil Trifonov is the soloist for this special evening, performing Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1. Also on the program is Ravel's La valse, Gabriela Lena Frank's “Chasqui” from Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout, and Dvořák's Symphony No. 8 rounding out the festive evening.

Eric Firestone Gallery ushers in its fall season with its first solo show of works by postwar abstract painter Nina Yankowitz, whom the gallery now represents. Opening Friday, September 9 at 40 Great Jones Street, Can Women Have One Man Shows? comprises Yankowitz's Draped Paintings and Pleated Paintings series, bodies of work spanning the 1960s and 70s in which the artist created unstretched canvases hanging in loose folds, eschewing the conventional use of rigid frames and stretcher bars.

The Fountain Theatre will once again jump into action with a “hyper-staged” reading of Roe, a powerful, poignant and often humorous play by Lisa Loomer that cuts through the headlines to reveal the real-life women behind Roe v. Playwright Pearl Cleage's WHAT I LEARNED IN PARIS---now on stage at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa through March 19, 2022---takes place during the historic win of Atlanta's first black mayor in 1973 and focuses on a romantic triangle between a young campaign staffer and two much older men she works with at the election HQ.
