Gooooooo Chipmunks!  Farmers Alley Theatre's famous 'Cabaret Series' is back with the return of our favorite female foursome in the brand-new jukebox musical Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On.  Performed in our original black box space in downtown Kalamazoo, this family-friendly revue will be playing December 7th-30th at 221 Farmers Alley.  Our cabaret setting includes dessert & coffee with your ticket, and our bar will be open for any adult beverages, beer, wine & hot chocolate as you take in some of the greatest songs from the 60's & 70's.  'Putting on our cabaret show every December is a highlight for us every season,' says Executive Director, Adam Weiner. 'And with great songs and a show & characters as beloved as 'The Marvelous Wonderettes', this is a sure-fire crowd-pleaser for the entire family.'

 Roy Clark, the legendary 'superpicker', GRAMMY, CMA and ACMaward winner, Country Music Hall of Fame and Grand Ole Opry member and co-host of the famed 'Hee Haw' television series, died today at the age of 85 due to complications from pneumonia at home in Tulsa, Okla.

As a follow-up to 2017's acclaimed Ballet: The Music of Michael Gibbs, Seattle-based trumpeter Cuong Vu joins forces once again with guitar great Bill Frisell, bassist Luke Bergman and drummer Ted Poor on the boundary-pushing quartet outing for RareNoiseRecords, Change in the Air. With all the members of the quartet contributing compositions, this one finds the four participants on equal footing on ten adventurous originals. From Poor's dreamy, noirish opener 'All That's Left of Me Is You' and his lonesome echo-laden waltz 'Alive' to Bergman's dynamic 'Must Concentrate,' Frisell's delicate 'Look, Listen' and his beguiling heartland melody 'Long Ago' and Vu's angular 'Round and Round' and his edgy and electrified 'March of the Owl and the Bat,' these four stellar musicians are truly on one accord and dealing with a rare level of nuance and depth of communication on Change in the Air.

National Youth Music Theatre's season is well underway at The Other Palace. With casts and creatives featuring young people, NYMT's work develops up and coming talent on stage and off. The latest show to open is The Beautiful Game, which also stars veteran actor Jasper Britton. Talking to us during rehearsals, Jasper reveals his tips for learning lines, what his day job is, and how his own start in acting is intertwined with the start of NYMT.

Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece Long Day's Journey Into Night  comes to the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts for a limited three-week engagement from Friday, June 8 through Sunday, July 1. Richard Eyre's acclaimed Bristol Old Vic production stars Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons(Brideshead Revisited, Reversal of Fortune,  'The Borgias') and Olivier Award winner and Oscar nominee Lesley Manville(Another Year,  'Harlots,' Phantom Thread). Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game, The Riot Club), Rory Keenan (BBC's 'War & Peace,' 'Peaky Blinders') and Jessica Regan (reprising the role as Cathleen from the 2016 Bristol Old Vic production) round out the ensemble cast.

That is what Diana, the central character in Neil Bartram and Brian Hill's new musical YOU ARE HERE does on the eve of the moon landing - she walks out of her comfortable suburban, Chicago life and learns how the unexpected can lead to a life changing experience. I had the chance to sit down with the duo behind the show, book writer Brian Hill and composer and lyricist, Neil Bartram who shared a little about their creative process, Diana's journey in the show, and how they work effectively together to bring a musical like YOU ARE HERE to life.

American Repertory Ballet returns to New York City on April 6 and 7 at 8 p.m. with "Generations: Influences from the Modern Age," a triple bill of critically acclaimed works by Jose Limon, Gerald Arpino and Artistic Director Douglas Martin, at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College East, 68th Street between Park & Lexington Avenues.   

This spring, American Repertory Ballet (ARB) will present Generations: Influences from theModern Age, a triple bill of critically acclaimed works by Jose Limon, Gerald Arpino and Artistic Director Douglas Martin, at three venues in New Jersey and New York City. The company, whose mission "is to bring the joy, beauty, artistry and discipline of classical and contemporary dance to New Jersey and nationwide audiences," launches its spring tour at Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ, (21 Bridge Avenue), with two performances on Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24.

Music fans wanting a little variety with their summer tour package will get that very thing with "Poison… Nothin' But a Good Time 2018" tour. Iconic rock band POISON, with all original members, will be joined by CHEAP TRICK and POP EVIL on its trek across the U.S. this summer stopping at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on Friday, June 22nd.

On February 23rd, Craft Recordings will release newly remastered editions of three classic albums from soul icon Isaac Hayes: Hot Buttered Soul, Shaft, and Black Moses. The very title of THE FIGHT encourages us to imagine the rivalry between Phyllis Feinberg (Fleur Alys Dobbins) and Doris Marguiles (Judith Hawking)--obviously fictional names for Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan---in pugilistic terms.Deftly directed by Peter Dobbins, artistic director for the Storm Theater Company (which is currently in its twentieth season), Leaf's meticulously researched play explores the ideological and personal conflicts within Second Wave feminism, taking the 1973 meeting of the National Woman's Caucus in Houston as its dramatic focal point. Like his last work, Deconstruction, THE FIGHT is part-mystery and part-intellectual history. Profiled as an 'up and coming playwright' and compared to Saul Bellow in Timeout New York, Leaf's signature is the sustained, careful exposition of concepts and characters through sharp, witty, realistic dialogue. One thinks of George Eliot's line in Daniel Deronda's Book II: 'The moment of finding a fellow-creature is often as full of mingled doubt and exultation as the moment of finding an idea.' Leaf's plays are cerebral yet full of emotion, 'mingl ing ' ideas with with their messy human manifestations in ways Eliot, an irreducibly philosophical novelist, would approve.
