Dr. Marilyn A. Fraser, CEO of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health (AAIUH), announced today the hosts and honorees for SportsBall 2019, the 25th Annual Black Tie & Sneakers Gala, to take place on Wednesday, October 2nd at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. Renowned guests representing sports, philanthropy, business, entertainment, and medicine will gather to celebrate the legacy of tennis champion and humanitarian Arthur Ashe. The event benefits the ongoing community health education programs and research initiatives of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health.

On Sunday, June 16, Washington, D.C.'s theatre community gathered to celebrate the end of MICHAEL KAHN's 33-year tenure as Artistic Director of Shakespeare Theatre Company with musical and dramatic performances, special guests from the worlds of entertainment, politics, and media, and a mayoral proclamation.

ReFrame, a collaborative initiative of WIF LA and Sundance Institute, announced the inaugural class of ReFrame Rise directors at the 2019 Women In Film Annual Gala on Wednesday, June 12 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. The inaugural class of ReFrame Rise directors include Desiree Akhavan, Haifaa al-Mansour, Patricia Cardoso, Hanelle Culpepper, Sydney Freeland, Zetna Fuentes, Tina Mabry and Meera Menon.

Last night renowned singer and songwriter Ben Harper performed “There Will Be A Light” on American Idol with Top 20 contestant Alejandro Aranda; watch it HERE. “There Will Be A Light” is the title track from Harper's 2004 album with The Blind Boys of Alabama which won a Grammy for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album that year.

Broadway stars Liz McCartney and Bob Stillman will headline Judson Theatre Company's  Souvenir: A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins by Stephen Temperley. Souvenir is the first production of  Judson Theatre Company's eighth season, opening Thursday, May 9, 2019 and running through Sunday, May 12 at the Hannah Center Theatre.

David Mirvish in a co-production with the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre presents A DOLL'S HOUSE, PART 2 by Lucas Hnath. Starring four outstanding Canadian actors and directed by Krista Jackson, this brilliant and audacious play is performed March 23 to April 14, 2019 at Toronto's CAA Theatre as part of the Off-Mirvish Season. 

Utah's Governor Gary R. Herbert held a press conference last week to announce not-to-miss musical headliners, performances that will be a part of the Spike 150 celebration of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, including events starring Brian Stokes Mitchell, Megan Hilty and Ali Ewoldt.

Blackberry Smoke will perform a series of stripped down shows this spring as part of their newly confirmed, “Break It Down Tour,” the band's first-ever acoustic tour. Tickets for the performances—which include stops in Lexington, KY, Kalamazoo, MI, Rocky Mount, VA, Ithaca, NY and New York, NY among many others—go on-sale this Friday, January 11 at 10:00am local time. Certainly, if you're looking for a festive night on the town with your family this holiday week, WHITE CHRISTMAS at Dr. Phillips Center is your ticket. There's something quaint about heading downtown for some simple entertainment to ring in the holiday. And to this production's credit, the set design is (for the most part) vivid, detailed, and impressive. Ditto the costuming, a distinctly 2000s interpretation of the 1940s and '50s. The grand finale is stunning in both respects...

Porchlight Music Theatre begins its sixth season of Chicago's "lost" musicals in staged concert series with Porchlight Revisits 1776, music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and book by Peter Stone with direction by Artistic Director Michael Weber, musical direction by Jeremy Ramey and musical staging by Michelle Lauto.

In the black at the back of the Vineyard Theater during one of the final previews of The Beast in the Jungle the other night sat its composer, disguising himself as a member of the audience by dispassionately drinking in the stage action and politely applauding at the appropriate places. This is-typically-the usual battle station for the artist-in-progress. Atypically-in fact, for the first time--John Kander sat alone.

The 39th annual Banff World Media Festival (BANFF) is proud to announce Emmy and Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth* (Wicked, Hairspray Live!) will host this year's Rockie Awards Gala Ceremony featuring a star-studded line-up of award recipients. According to Variety, Demian Bichir and Andrea Riseborough will star in Sony's new take on the horror classic “The Grudge.” Writer Nicolas Pesce will also direct the reboot.

REPRISE 2.0 is now announced, presenting a season of three classic American musicals at UCLA's Freud Playhouse, by Marcia Seligson, Producing Artistic Director of the new performing arts organization.  REPRISE 2.0 is partnering with the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television's Department of Theater (UCLA TFT), chaired by Brian Kite. 

GFour Productions, winners of fifty-six Drama Desk and forty-four Tony Awards, are proudly bringing the international hit show Menopause The Musical to the Aronoff Center's intimate Jarson-Kaplan Theater from March 22-31 for twelve performances (see performance schedule below).
