Investec Opera Holland Park Announces 2019 Season Casts And Dates

Manon Lescaut, sponsored by Viking Cruises, opens the season with the British lyric soprano Elizabeth Llewellyn in the title role. Named 'Best newcomer in opera' by The Telegraph in 2010 following her operatic debut as Mimi in La boheme at English National Opera, Llewellyn has gone from strength to strength on the international stage. She was last at OHP in 2017, as Magda in La rondine. The Welsh bass-baritone Paul Carey Jones makes his OHP debut as Lescaut. His recent career highlights include his Royal Opera House debut in The Nose and the Scottish premiere of Philip Glass's The Trial with Scottish Opera.

The Green Room 42 - Broadway's newest intimate concert venue - will present Nathan Lee Graham, the singular Grammy Award winning performer from Zoolander, HBO's "The Comeback," Broadway's Priscilla and more, in the world premiere of his first evening of all theater music "All Things Bright and Beautiful: A Sondheim Salon" on Thursday, October 11 at 7:00 PM. From the dramatic ballads of Follies to the comedic highlights of Forum, Graham will perform a vividly creative cross-section of the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer's most beloved creations. After a whirlwind year in which Graham was nominated for a Lucile Lortel Award for the hit Off Broadway musical The View UpStairs to starring in the Fox TV series "LA to Vegas" opposite Dylan McDermott, Graham will present a romantic, 19th Century-style evening featuring songs such as "Loving You," "Bounce" and "Being Alive." He will be joined by musical director Tracy Stark on piano with Peter Calo on guitar.

Beginning tomorrow, July 28, designer, director, master puppeteer, and MacArthur "genius" Basil Twist will perform in his singular creation, Symphonie Fantastique, during all Saturdayevening performances. The 20th-anniversary production, which has received near universal acclaim and is scheduled to close on September 2, will include Twist on July 28, August 4, 11, 18, 25 and September 1 at 8:30pm. Set to Hector Berlioz's revolutionary 1830 score, Symphonie Fantastique, for the first time in New York, features live piano accompaniment by Christopher O'Riley. Hailed as a creative masterpiece when it debuted in 1998, the production, which opened on April 4, is a presentation from HERE's Dream Music Puppetry Program and a centerpiece of HERE's 25th anniversary season.

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced that Ain't Too Proud-The Life and Times of the Temptations, which premiered at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, has broken the single-week box office record for the week ending Sunday, July 22, with a gross of $955,660.50. The critically acclaimed production, that ended its sold-out, five-week, pre-Broadway run on Sunday, broke the previous record of $916,877.00, held by the Kennedy Center's own 2011 hit production of Follies.

Dick Hyman Comes to The Bickford Theatre, 5/7

The virtuoso jazz pianist Dick Hyman will perform at the Bickford Theatre on Monday, May 7, at 7:30 PM. His solo concert, "Dick Hyman Plays the Decades," features his interpretations of popular songs from Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" written in 1892 to Stephen Sondheim's "Losing My Mind" from the 1971 musical Follies. Some of the other selections to be performed are the Lennon-McCartney hit "Norwegian Wood," the popular standard "Stella by Starlight," and "I Feel Pretty" in celebration of the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein. Mr. Hyman also promises to perform his tour-de-force version of Fats Waller's "Minor Drag."
