Hell in a Handbag Productions continues its 2019 season with the world premiere of THE DRAG SEED, an unauthorized parody of the 1956 psychological horror-thriller film The Bad Seed, inspired by our changing times, written by Artistic Director David Cerda, with direction by Cheryl Snodgrass and songs by David Cerda and Scott Lamberty.

Today, we begin a series of feature stories, focusing on the four emerging playwrights and their new works which will premiere over the next ten days at the Ingram New Works Festival. First up is Riti Sachdeva, whose play Welcome to the Taj Palace (motel) will have its premiere public reading in Nashville.

Three women, three social media accounts and three times the drama. A tongue-in-cheek musical comedy exposing all the hilarious consequences of online personas, strong opinions and bad behaviour. This production showcases the good, the bad and the downright ugly and gives us all an opportunity to laugh at ourselves. International pop superstar Marc Anthony, the King of Bachata Romeo Santos, renowned singer, songwriter and actress Becky G, Puerto Rican rapper extraordinaire Wisin, singer, pop rock Mexican band Reik, Latin trap movement pioneer Anuel, Brazilian sensation Anitta, and Latin pop Colombian singer and songwriter Sebastian Yatra, will perform at this year's Billboard Latin Music Awards, joining Ozuna, Carlos Vives, Bad Bunny, CNCO, Banda MS and Karol G who were previously announced. The most prestigious awards show in the Latin music world will broadcast live on Telemundo Thursday, April 25 at 8pm/7c from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The show will also air simultaneously on Spanish-language entertainment cable network, Universo, and throughout the Americas via Telemundo Internacional. In this "tale told by idiots," The Reduced Shakespeare Company weaves all of The Bard's famous characters, greatest lines and magnificent speeches into a brand new Shakespearean smorgasbord. William Shakespeare's Long Lost First Play (abridged) is a comic misadventure that will feel strangely familiar yet excitingly new, presented by The Broad Stage for two performances only April 5 and 6 at 7:30pm.

MSCHF Internet Studios, the company making internet for the internet, today unveils their latest venture: Cignature Films, a new production studio with the goal to completely remove smoking in Hollywood movies and television. In an effort to better the world around us, the studio will obtain films and TV episodes which feature significant tobacco use, replace each cigarette with a harmless kazoo and then re-release them to the public. Today's launch of the studio comes with the release of their first episode: removing cigarettes from the pilot episode of 'Mad Men' and replacing them with the 'Cignature' kazoos instead. Cignature Films' decision to start with this episode, titled 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes,' stems from the irony of it advertising cigarettes and the company's goal to end this throughout all movies and television shows.

 This past Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, Austin nonprofit Black Fret awarded $250,000 to local musicians at the fifth annual Black Fret Ball at ACL Live at The Moody Theatre, resulting in over $1 million in grants awarded to Austin musicians over the last five years. The show featured live performances by 15 of the 20 grant nominees for 2018.
