The Museum of Pop Culture today announced the October opening of Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume in partnership with the Walt Disney Archives. Through more than 70 original items including ball gowns, sorcerers' capes, military uniforms, tiaras, and of course glass slippers, the exhibition immerses visitors into the world of Disney and shows how our understanding of its iconic characters is shaped through the artistry and creativity of its costumes. Composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim changed the face of American musical theater forever. A pupil of Oscar Hammerstein (of the famed songwriting pair Rogers & Hammerstein), Sondheim worked on his first Broadway show - a little known musical called West Side Story - at the young age of 27. Over the next 50 years, Sondheim would win eight Tony Awards, eight Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, a Laurence Olivier Award, a 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom, among many others. Some of his most popular works, including Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, and Gypsy, have been adapted into feature films.

The Muny announced today the directors, choreographers and music directors for its 2020 season, which opens June 15 with Kander and Ebb's internationally-acclaimed Chicago. Among the talented list are a mix of Muny favorites and newcomers. In addition to casting, a comprehensive list of design teams for each production will be released later this spring. A teen-helmed production of the Tony Award-winning rock musical, Spring Awakening, is set to open at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood on May 11, 2019.
