Sarasota Opera announced its 2019-2020 Fall and Winter Festival Seasons today at a press conference held on the Sarasota Opera House main stage in Sarasota, Florida. Artistic director and principal conductor Victor DeRenzi and executive director Richard Russell presided over the event and were joined by principal artists performing selected arias from the upcoming seasons' works.

Cantatas were the daily work of the master composer. A selection of Bach's most uplifting cantatas will be sung by the acclaimed American Classical Orchestra Chorus with selected soloists in the ideal acoustic hall of St. Ignatius of Antioch Church. This concert is conducted by Thomas Crawford.

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 36 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2016 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 19 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration. After seeing the new INTO THE WOODS movie twice over the holidays, I posted on Twitter about how two of the songs had stuck with me. After a tweet conversation, my BWW colleague Jeff Walker and I decided to put our heads together to try and come up with a list of Sondheim's most hummable tunes. Despite not discussing it beforehand, Jeff ended up picking songs from the 1960s and 70s, and I filled in the gaps with numbers from the 80s and 90s.

Rising cabaret star Marissa Mulder's most recent performance of 'Living Standards' at the Metropolitan Room was certainly up to the high standard she has set for herself over the past couple of years. In fact, she's so consistently solid that she overcame the show's misguided and clunky premise that some very good contemporary songs should be thought of as 'standards.'

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the 35 films that will comprise the main slate of official selections for the 51st New York Film Festival

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema in association with Japan Society announce the full schedule today for the 2013 New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) which will screen June 28 - July 15. The popular film festival will showcase over 60 feature films with filmmakers and celebrity guests travelling from Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan to attend the festival. Also announced were special focuses for this year's edition of NYAFF including a celebration of the career of Korean star Ryoo Seung-Beom and new works from the Philippines (joining the previously announced focuses on Hong Kong cinema, Taiwan pulp and a salute to Well Go USA).

Chichester Festival Theatre celebrates its 50th birthday with an anniversary season that echoes and acknowledges the past while also looking to the future. Uncle Vanya was part of Chichester's very first season in 1962 and became a key part of its history and is revisited during Festival 2012. The Way of the World in 1984 has also become an emblematic production; the play will feature again this year.
