'Distant Observer: Tokyo/New York Correspondence' is a collaboration between Japanese playwright/director Takeshi Kawamura and American playwright/director John Jesurun. The project is conceived as a play written and directed in collaborative partnership by both artists. Written in sequential chapters by each playwright, it combines two noted and formative artists of the same generation, both with distinct voices and significant work, in a deep creative conversation across cultures. Its plot follows a supposed murderer who reinvents himself, and is reinvented by circumstance, in a series of adventures in the Suicide Forest of Japan.  La MaMa will present the play's world premiere, directed by Jesurun, March 16 to April 1 in its Ellen Stewart Theatre, 66 East Fourth Street.

The Donmar Warehouse today announces full casting for James Macdonald's new revival of William Congreve's Restoration comedy masterpiece The Way of The World. Haydn Gwynne will be playing the role of Lady Wishfort, replacing Linda Bassett who has sadly had to withdraw from the production before the start of rehearsals for personal reasons.

McMain Students Celebrate Black History Month With THE COLOR PURPLE Reading With Broadway Cast Members

In honor of Black History Month, the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) and Broadway in New Orleans have partnered together to give 30 McMain High School students an exclusive opportunity to hear a reading of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel THE COLOR PURPLE from cast members of the Tony Award-winning Broadway show. Students will have the opportunity to ask cast members questions about the show, storyline and their professional backgrounds. Presented by the New Orleans Theatre Association, THE COLOR PURPLE is part of the East Jefferson General Hospital Broadway in New Orleans 2017 - 2018 season and will play at the Saenger Theatre Feb. 20-25.

The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President and CEO) announced today the recipients of the 2017 Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative Classroom Resource Grants. Grant requests of up to $100,000 were considered for K-12 public schools, with nearly 200 applications received from across 40 states. Requests totaled nearly $4.2 million.
