In The Playwrights Realm’s 15th Anniversary Restart Season, in lieu of productions, the organization expands its existing programs and networks of support for playwrights, generating a vital sense of community that likewise catalyzes vital writing.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley rings in the holidays with the new musical Pride and Prejudice, the 2019 Tony-winning company's 70th World Premiere. Based on Jane Austen's iconic novel, this engaging work features book, music, and lyrics by Paul Gordon, whose musicals include TheatreWorks favorites Jane Austen's EMMA, Daddy Long Legs, and the Tony-nominated Broadway musical Jane Eyre. Pride and Prejudice follows delightfully liberated Lizzie Bennet and dashing, disdainful Mr. Darcy as they discover the irresistible power of love. A favorite from TheatreWorks's 2018 New Works Festival, this brand new musical romantic comedy will be directed by TheatreWorks's Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley.

Cheryl Strayed, author of the Oprah-sanctioned book Wild (later turned into an Oscar nominated film starring Reese Witherspoon), spent some time as an online advice columnist known as Sugar. During her tenure, Dear Sugar became a must-read site, known for dispensing advice with grace, humor, and a deep, deep empathy for the advice-seekers. After her time as a?oeDear Sugara?? ended, Strayed turned her experiences into the best-selling book, Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar.

Invertigo Dance Theatre's FORMULAE & FAIRY TALES will world premiere at The Broad Stage September 13th and 14th, before going on tour beginning of next year. FORMULAE & FAIRY TALES re-imagines the life of mathematical genius and WWII codebreaker Alan Turing in a mash-up with the Disney classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I had the opportunity to delve into the creative mind of Invertigo Dance Theatre's Founding Artistic Director Laura Karlin, the originator/co-creator of this piece.

Earlier this year, on April 22, The Phantom of the Opera, reached a milestone that no other Broadway show has even come near. Phantom, the longest-running show in Broadway history, became the first Broadway show EVER to reach #13,000 performances. After 11 years, The Ringwald has retooled their annual Gay Play Series (GPS) into Gay4Detroit, a new all-inclusive gay arts celebration! In 2007, American Peter Michael Marino wrote the musical version of the Madonna movie 'Desperately Seeking Susan' featuring the hit songs of Blondie.
