Based on the 1957 television production

There’s more to this classic tale than sewing mice and magical pumpkins. Ballet Memphis will reprise Steven McMahon’s interpretation of the Charles Perrault fairy tale as the season’s last mainstage show. The company debuted the work–featuring the famous score by Sergei Prokofiev as well as sets from the London City Ballet –during the 2008-09 season.

The Met's first cancellation due to coronavirus concerns was the revival of Rossini's LA CENERENTOLA, the opera retelling of the Cinderella story, set to star mezzo Tara Erraught in the title role and one of its biggest tenor stars, Javier Camarena as Don Ramiro, her prince. The opera holds a particular place in Camarena's history at the Met: It made him an overnight sensation when he was tapped to replace Juan Diego Florez and blew the roof off--a real-life Cinderella story.

Today Pennsylvania Ballet announced a dynamic new season, 'Magic of Stories,' complete with fairytale full length stories, world premieres at the Perelman Theater from choreographers with long-time ties to the company and a sparkling tribute to George Balanchine. Villanova Theatre presents a staged reading of The Behavior of Light, written and directed by Broadway playwright and Hollywood screenwriter, Douglas Carter Beane. Perhaps best known for his screenplay To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar as well as his award-winning work on musicals Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Sister Act, Xanadu and Lysistrata Jones, Beane is playwright-in-residence at Villanova University this spring. The acclaimed writer has been working alongside undergraduate and graduate students on a new play development process culminating in a public reading April 27-29, 2018. The Behavior of Light is sure to capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences far and wide.

Michael Sgouros (music) and Brenda Bell (book/lyrics), who have been collaborating since 2008, have written 12 original Off-Broadway musicals together. This latest production of Cinderella marks the shows fourth revival.
