San Diego Opera's 2019-2020 mainstage season continues with Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, which opens on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the San Diego Civic Theatre for four performances.

Kansas City Actors Theatre has completed casting and will soon begin rehearsals for its production of Marsha Norman's Pulitzer Prize-winning a?oe'night, Mother,a?? which will run from January 8th to January 26th, 2020 at the City Stage in Union Station. The production will be directed by Sidonie Garrett, who last directed a?oeA Streetcar Named Desirea?? for Kansas City Actors Theatre in 2016. The production will feature Jan Rogge (a?oeA Lie of the Mind,a?? a?oeMy Old Ladya??) and Cinnamon Schultz (a?oeA Streetcar Named Desire,a?? a?oeSea Marksa??) and will feature scenic design by Ken Martin, costume design by Mary Traylor, lighting design by Shane Rowse, sound design by David Kiehl, properties design by Deb Morgan, and technical direction by Kyle Dyck.

NOVEMBER THEATRE brings award-winning British playwright, Miriam Battye's, (un)ordinary world to life. When Matty, a stranger, enters the intimate world of Ella and Zoe, what unfolds is a night of reality TV binge watching, role play, personal confessions, and two marriage proposals. As the girls work through a big life decision, the insecurities of all three are brought to a head as they go through a transformative evening of activities. 

Becoming Dr. Ruth by Mark St. Germain, produced by Orlando Shakes in partnership with UCF, runs from January 8 - February 9, 2020. In this incredible one-woman performance, actress Eileen DeSandre* embodies media personality Dr. Ruth in a tell-all reflection of her extraordinary life. Becoming Dr. Ruth is presented in partnership with the Holocaust Memorial and Resource Center of Central Florida through the generous support of Jim and Valeria Shapiro. San Diego Opera's 2019-2020 season continues with a special one-night-only event on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 7:30 PM when soprano Ailyn Pérez and tenor Joshua Guerrero perform in concert at the Balboa Theatre. They will be accompanied by pianist Abdiel Vázquez. Ailyn Pérez is no stranger to San Diego Opera, having made her Company debut as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet in 2010, returning to sing Marguerite in Faust in 2011, and in recital in 2014. In demand at all the major opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, and Opéra National de Paris, Ms. Pérez is the winner of the 2012 Richard Tucker Award, the 15th annual Plácido Domingo Award, and the 14th annual Opera News Award. 

Spoleto Festival USA announces the return of Scottish Ballet during the 2020 season. Last in Charleston in 2015, the company, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2019, performs one of its newest works on May 22, 23, and 24: The Crucible. Choreographer Helen Pickett's retelling of Arthur Miller's iconic drama can be seen at the Charleston Gaillard Center, accompanied by 18 members of the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra performing a haunting score by Peter Salem.

The Board of Directors of The National Ballet of Canada today announced that Karen Kain will retire as Artistic Director in January 2021 and will be named Artistic Director Emeritus.

Identical, the world premiere of a 'Twin-sational' new musical, destined for London's West End, is based on the novel The Parent Trap by Erich Kästner, which inspired Disney films featuring Hayley Mills in 1961 and Lindsay Lohan in 1998. It tells the story of twin girls separated at birth, reunited by chance at a summer camp 10 years later. In an attempt to re-join their divorced parents, they decide to exchange identities.

Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, the Pulitzer Prize-winner that is on virtually every critic's short list of greatest American plays, opens Palm Beach Dramaworks' 2019-2020 season on Friday, October 11 (8pm) at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre. Performances continue through November 3, with specially priced previews on October 9 and 10 (7:30pm). J. Barry Lewis directs.

St. Ann's Warehouse and Good Chance present The Jungle, a Good Chance co-production with the National Theatre and the Young Vic that is back by popular demand following a completely sold-out American Premiere last season, beginning April 2, 2020. The production will then tour the U.S. in Spring / Summer 2021; details will be announced at a later date.

Roundabout Theatre Company and Columbia University School of the Arts have announced the winners of Columbia@Roundabout's 2019 New Play Reading Series. As part of the collaborative partnership between Roundabout Theatre Company and Columbia University, the reading series awards three playwrights from the current MFA program and recent alumni with a cash prize as well as a reading in Roundabout's Rehearsal Hall, followed by a post-reading reception. Five finalists have also received cash prizes in recognition of their exceptional work. No other collaborative partnership in the New York area brings together an esteemed Ivy League MFA program with a Tony Award-winning, not-for-profit theatre. The reading series is made possible by a grant from The Tow Foundation.

Measure for Measure Theatre welcomes Nicole Perry to their production team for the 2019-2020 season. She will serve as the company's intimacy choreographer for their productions of In the Heights, Island Song and Pippin.

Crowded Fire Theater (CFT), known as a vital home for new play development and production on the West Coast, announced Ard, Keiko Shimosato Carreiro, Everett Elton Bradman, Erin Gilley, and Ashley Smiley as the fourth year IGNITE FUND awardees. The IGNITE FUND awards $10,000 in total annually to support the growth of and enhance the working lives of Bay Area theater designers and technicians through a competitive grant process.

Simon Stone stages his contemporary rewrite of Euripides' tragedy, Medea, at the BAM Harvey Theater running Jan 12—Feb 23, 2020. The production will star Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Rose Byrne (Damages, Bridesmaids, Get Him to the Greek) and two-time Emmy winner and Tony nominee Bobby Cannavale (Mauritius, The Motherf**ker With the Hat), with full cast to be announced.

The National Ballet of Canada today announced the Emerging Arts Critics (EAC) programme will expand in the 2019/20 season to include Soulpepper Theatre Company along with returning collaborators The National Ballet of Canada, Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and the Canadian Opera Company(COC).
