Festival Dance (2011).
Created as a part of MMDG's 30th Anniversary Celebration, the Seattle premiere of Festival Dance is a celebratory dance that evokes joy and mirth as six couples move about the stage in a blissful pastoral, set to a lyrical piano trio by Johann Nepomuk Hummel. "It's charming, it's exhilarating, it's unexpected," New York Observer.
Violet Cavern (2004)
Composer: The Bad Plus
Beautifully geometric, Violet Cavern is a "collaboration of music, art and dance met up with imagination and wit," Contra Costa Times, performed to an original score by improvisational jazz trio, The Bad Plus. Visual artist Stephen Hendee's colorfully illuminated panels are suspended about 15 dancers as they spin across the stage in spellbinding, kaleidoscopic patterns.
The Seattle engagement features newly appointed principle dancer Aaron Loux. Loux grew up in Seattle and began dancing at the Creative Dance Center as a member of Kaleidoscope, a youth modern dance company, and participated in STG's DANCE This program for five consecutive years (2001 - 2005). He began his classical training at the Cornish College Preparatory Dance Program and received his B.F.A. from The Juilliard School in 2009. Loux joined MMDG in 2010.
