New Century Theatre Company to Stage West Coast Premiere of FESTEN

By:

New Century Theatre Company (NCTC) closes out its first season at 12th Avenue Arts with a powerhouse family drama adapted by David Eldridge from the Danish film The Celebration. The Company has wanted to produce Festen for many years and it will be NCTC's biggest production yet. Festen will be directed by Tony Award nominee Wilson Milam and the cast will feature the work of ten Company Members.

Festen takes place at a family-run hotel where friends and family have gathered to celebrate patriarch Helge's 60th birthday. Dark secrets revealed during the course of the evening expose the false cheeriness of the family as Helge's adult son Christian struggles to set himself free from his past.

The Celebration is part of Dogme 95, a film movement founded in Copenhagen in the spring of 1995 by Danish directors Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg. They created a set of rules called a "Vow of Chastity" to create films that focused on the story and characters, rather than the use of special effects and technology.
