Lions is a comedy clown show and deconstructed eulogy about the deaths of the fathers of its two co-writers and performers, Scott R. Sheppard and Alice Yorke, directed and developed by Sarah Blush. Both Sheppard and Yorke lost their fathers in sudden and unexpected ways within fourteen months of each other, and the show explores the business of death — its routines, logistics, and the micro dramas that carry the weight of a person's legacy. The production disassembles the myths their fathers told themselves about what it means to be a great man, blending elements of Kafka and A Christmas Carol. Lightning Rod Special, the Philadelphia-based company behind the multi-award-winning Underground Railroad Game, makes its international premiere of this work at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
