Off The Rails is a new musical written and performed by Stephanie MacGaraidh and directed by Katie Slater.
Maggie is Aberdeen-bound on a ScotRail service and she’s feeling a bit overwhelmed. It wasn’t a planned excursion, she decided on the spur of the moment to get on the train and head as far as she could.
Off The Rails is a live looped musical that is technically brilliant. The songs are beautifully performed and bring a sprinkle of humour to proceedings. MacGaraidh is a gorgeous singer, and the music is a real welcome addition to the piece.
Maggie meets all kinds of people on her journey, and the narrative is punctuated by them getting on and off along the way. As they enquire as to why she’s heading so far north while still dressed in her jammies and carrying only a tote bag we find out more behind what has caused her to flee.
Off The Rails is clever, witty and unpredictable. It’s a wholly human story about friendship and connection that is very easy to relate to, beautifully written and performed by Stephanie MacGaraidh.
