With a few days to go until the kick off of the world's biggest arts festival, I've selected some of my most anticipated comedy shows that are running in 2014.

Josie Long: Cara Josephine

Having caught Josie Long's set at Glastonbury Festival last month I am really excited to see Cara Josephine in its entirety this August. A mixture of personal anecdotes and current affairs delivered with wit and charm, Josie Long has been one of my favourite comedians for several years and I'm very glad to see her return to the Fringe this year!

Vikki Stone: Instrumental

I went to see Vikki Stone last year without knowing very much about her and it was one of my highlights of Edinburgh 2013. A trained musician who manages to be endearingly vulgar with her musical comedy - I can't wait to see what she's come up with in Instrumental.

Overlooked: A Roll Call Of The Small

Slightly different from my other selections, Overlooked is sketch comedy rather than stand-up. This is a show that celebrates the ignored and undervalued and has been well received at both Adelaide and Brighton Fringe festivals earlier in the year. Overlooked is part of the Freestival where entry is free and you can donate what you think a show is worth.

Simon Amstell: Tour Previews

I have really enjoyed Amstell's television work but have never experienced his stand-up routine. He is doing a limited run at the Fringe ahead of his UK tour. I'm looking forward to it!
