DEER BY AARON MARK OPENS AT THE OJAI ART CENTER THEATER: A TWISTED COMEDY ABOUT NORMAL PEOPLE WHO SNAP

Ojai, California – February 26, 2024 : The Ojai Art Center Theater proudly announces the opening of Aaron Mark’s new comedy, Deer, as the second show of its landmark 85th season. Directed by the talented David Henderson and starring Cynthia Killion and Taylor KaschDeer is set to captivate audiences from March 29 through April 21.

Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm. Tickets are available for $25. For purchasing tickets or more information, please visit ojaiact.org.

The story of Deer  unfolds as it examines the lives of a couple, Cynthia and Ken, as they grapple with the aftermath of a sudden and jolting accident that spirals into a profound exploration of their relationship. The play delves into themes of guilt, forgiveness, and redemption, showcasing Aaron Mark’s signature blend of depth, humor, and humanity. Critics have praised the play for its engaging narrative and complex characterizations, with the Portland Press Herald describing it as “a twisted and transfixing tale…equal parts creepy and comical,” and Reno Arts highlighting it as “an extremely funny and, dare I say, bloody tale of self-discovery.”

Featuring Ventura County stage veterans and real-life couple Cynthia Killion and Taylor Kasch, and produced by Rosie Gordon, Deer  promises a performance that is as enthralling as it is insightful. Under David Henderson’s direction, the play is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the complexities of love and forgiveness.

Aaron Mark, an award-winning playwright and director, is known for his compelling storytelling and has a repertoire of critically acclaimed plays including “Empanada Loca,” “Squeamish,” and “Another Medea,” all published by Dramatists Play Service. Mark’s creative genius extends beyond the theater; he is the creator-writer-director of Amazon’s “The Horror of Dolores Roach,” and the podcast that inspired it, featuring Daphne Rubin-Vega and Bobby Cannavale.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience Deer, a unique blend of comedy, drama, and the unexpected, at the Ojai Art Center Theater. This production not only adds to the rich legacy of the Art Center but also continues its tradition of presenting reflective and entertaining theater.
