SBCC Theatre Arts Department will open the fall semester with a student showcase production of Sophie Treadwell's drama MACHINAL, directed by Katie Laris, October 20-November 6, in the Interim Theatre on SBCC's West Campus.

Based on the sensational 1920's Snyder/Gray murder trial, Machinal captures a young woman's struggles to discover love and find freedom from the mechanical routine of her daily life. Written by Sophie Treadwell, the play's 1928 Broadway premiere featured Clark Gable as the woman's lover and since its debut has been internationally acclaimed as one of the greatest expressionist dramas ever produced.

Machinal will feature talented student actors from SBCC.  The company is Matthew Andreas, Megan Connors, Annie Diehl, Jesse Garcia, Viola Hammar, Austin Hunt, Heather Johnson, John Marino, Aaron-Michael Mendoza, Melissa Morgan Squire, Stuart Orenstein, Max Smith, Michael Sullivan, and Trevor Thompson.  Scenic and Costume design will be by Rachel Myers, Lighting Design by Patricia L. Frank, Sound Design by Barbara Hirsch and the Production Stage Manager will be Cynthia Moore.

Performances will be Thursday through Saturday @ 8pm, Sunday @ 2pm with Previews on October 20 & 21.  The Sunday, October 24, 2pm performance will be live-captioned for the hearing-impaired.  Ticket prices are $15 general, $12 seniors and SBCC staff and $8 students.  Tickets are available at the Interim Theatre Box Office at 965-5935.  Box Office hours are Monday-Friday, 1-5pm.  Parking is free and next to the theatre on the West Campus of Santa Barbara City College, 800 block of Cliff Dr.
