San Jose Stage Company opens the 2013-14 Season with a Pulitzer Prize Finalist, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, from October 16 through November 10.

Kristoffer Diaz' body-slamming comedy is presented in association with Capital Stage Company and directed by JoNathan Williams. The Stage launches the season with a performance that "echoes the fear and paradox that exists in the realities and myths of the American Dream in today's world," said Randall King, Artistic Director of The Stage.

In a true Culture Clash, Chad Deity hosts a cast of a Puerto Rican, a Caucasian, an African-American, an Indian-American Brooklynite and a non-descript professional wrestler, all set in the emotional and eloquent backdrop of a wrestling ring.

"As the company enters its next decade, we continue our mission to bring bold, diverse and innovative new work to The Stage. Our 31st Season revolves around the heart, soul and strength of community, tackling the forces of corruption, exploitation and depravity," added King.

The acclaimed comedy, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, slams together thrilling spectacle, incredible characters and geopolitical allegory into an invigorating theatrical experience that you can't find on pay-per-view.

Kristoffer Diaz's play also received the 2011 Obie Award for Best New American Play and the 2008 National Latino Playwriting Award, as well as was a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The set and video designer is Ian Wallace; costumes are designed by Stephen Hilliard based upon original designs by Lalena Vigil Hutton; light design is by Michael Palumbo; and the sound design is by Gregg Coffin.

The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity begins preview on October 16 and opens October 19. Performances are on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. and runs through November 10.
