Playwrights Foundation delivers lightning in a bottle with FlashPlays a lively new format of 30 second to 2 minute plays on December 6 & 7, 2015. Over 40 playwrights will create roughly 80 short plays to drive this whirlwind event at the historic Brava Theater in San Francisco. These short works come together forming an artistic mosaic of the here and now, a depiction the world around us in a fun and dynamic format.

Playwrights Foundation Artistic Director Amy Mueller remarks "The imagination and artistry that goes into any miniature form of art is fascinating, and with theater, it becomes an exhilarating and refreshing experience as plays keep rolling by one after the other. It's a wonderful way to celebrate the creativity of San Francisco's world-class artists."

FlashPlays participants include 48 local playwrights, eight of which are Resident Playwrights at Playwrights Foundation. FLASHPLAYS FESTIVAL PLAYWRIGHTS: Aaron Loeb, Aimee Suzara, Alison Luterman, Amy Sass, Andrew Saito, Anthony Clarvoe, Arisa White, Barbara Jwanouskos, Brit Frazier, Carol Lashof, Chistopher Chen, Dipika Guha, E. "One of the highlights of the year for me is sitting in a dark room and watching the unique voices of dozens of local writers spill out in 60 second bursts. I get to see the work of dear friends juxtaposed with the work of writers I've never met. It is always an exhilarating, hilarious, poignant evening that reveals both the individual voices and the chorus of the Bay Area theater community. "

ABOUT THE FLASHPLAYS FESTIVAL

The FlashPlays Festival is a community benefit for Playwrights Foundation, and will bring our community together creatively to think about our city and our world. This new format grows on the idea of "Flash Fiction", featuring new short plays varying in length from 30 seconds to 2 minutes in order to tell riveting new stories in a quick flash. The accumulation of these fragments together create a composite picture - one that is meaningful and relevant.

ABOUT PLAYWRIGHTS FOUNDATION

Playwrights Foundation (PF) was founded in 1976, and is today widely recognized as one of the top play development labs in the U.S. Our artistic purpose is to support and champion contemporary playwrights in the creation of new works to sustain theater as a vital, dynamic art form. PF seeks to identify exceptional emerging artists and give them space and time to explore new theatrical ideas and forms in an environment free from the pressures of the marketplace. By providing a creative home for largely unknown, exceptional local and national playwrights, and committing to accelerating their careers, PF fulfills an essential need in the cultural ecology of the Bay Area. In so doing, we have earned a national reputation for introducing a truly diverse range of singular, boundary-breaking new voices to the American stage, challenging assumptions about subject matter and artistic complexity. The only development lab of its size and scope on the West Coast, PF is widely recognized for its programmatic excellence. Our programs include the Bay Area Playwrights Festival; the Resident Playwrights Initiative; and the Producing Partnership Initiative, which includes our monthly Rough Readings Series.
