California Theatre Conservatory Will Present OKLAHOMA! in San Rafael
The Rodgers & Hammerstein classic comes to Hayes Theatre with conservatory-trained Bay Area performers.
California Theatre Conservatory (CTC) will present a bold new staging of **Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma! this May at the Hayes Theatre, bringing one of the most influential works in American musical theatre to Bay Area audiences in a production driven by emerging young artists.
Widely regarded as the first fully integrated musical, Oklahoma! set a new standard for storytelling on stage, blending music, dance, and narrative into a seamless theatrical experience. With a score that includes "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'," "People Will Say We're in Love," and the iconic title number, the musical continues to resonate with audiences more than 80 years after its premiere.
CTC's production places a fresh emphasis on character-driven storytelling and ensemble work, highlighting the depth and versatility of its conservatory-trained performers. Among the featured roles, Brooke [Last Name] appears as the irrepressible Ado Annie, while Emma [Last Name] takes on the role of Dream Laurey, bringing a lyrical physicality to one of the show's most visually expressive sequences.
Developed over nearly five months of intensive rehearsal and training, the production reflects CTC's commitment to rigorous arts education. Students have engaged in sustained work across acting, vocal performance, and dance, culminating in a fully realized staging that bridges pre-professional training with public performance.
"Oklahoma! represents a turning point in musical theatre history," said Anthony Evans, Managing Director of California Theatre Conservatory. "What makes this production special is the level of discipline and artistry these young performers bring to the work. It's not simply a student production-it's a serious, focused exploration of a classic piece."
Performances will take place at the Hayes Theatre at San Rafael High School for a limited engagement in May.
