When a murder mystery play goes hilariously off the rails, secrets, resentments and bodies come tumbling out of the walls while the cast and crew scramble to make sure the show must go on. "Death and Murder and Poison and Scene", an absurd farce of a murder mystery play within a play, explores the question "Why do actors go to such extreme lengths to make sure that the show will go on, despite broken bones, hurt feelings, skipped pages, and bodily harm?"
Written by Sarah Alida LeClair (Outstanding World Premiere, San Diego Fringe "Audition Sides", winner of the William Male Foundation Fellowship for writing) "Death and Murder and Poison and Scene" is the second in a series of plays about the behind-the-scenes actor's life. It follows Catherine, the leading lady blowing up her life in a showmance with hot young newcomer Michael; David, the NYU trained dramatic lead stress eating to deal with everyone's lack of professionalism; Emily, a method actor so devoted to "the craft" she hasn't slept for weeks on end to portray an insomniac; Taylor, an ambitious young playwright willing to go to any lengths to make her play go viral; and Alice, the stage manager so fiercely protective she'll kill to make sure the show runs smoothly.
At San Diego International Fringe from May 15th through May 24th. Tickets require an additional Fringe pass to be purchased, which is good for the entire San Diego Fringe festival. See website for all performance dates.
