Each year, a select group of talented high school students participate in the Summer Shakespeare Intensive. This four-week program, which guides students through workshops and rehearsals, will culminate with a public performance of two, one-hour versions of Shakespeare's plays, Love's Labor's Lost, directed by Ray Chambers, and The Tempest, directed by Vivia Font, on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, on Monday, August 10 at 7:00 p.m.

The four-week program began on July 11 and continues through August 10. It is an unparalleled opportunity for serious high school students to develop their skills in a professional setting and perform at The Old Globe in front of their family, friends, and theatre professionals. They also learned from Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and visiting artists from Twelfth Night, Kiss Me, Kate, and The Comedy of Errors, including Jan Gist, James T. Lane, Jake Millgard, Megan M. Storti, and Sara Topham.

Students in the Summer Shakespeare Intensive study classical theatre technique, voice, movement, and stage combat led by theatre professionals while rehearsing for two productions of Shakespeare's plays. Throughout the Intensive, the students have the unique opportunity to study Shakespeare and see the productions of the Globe's Shakespeare Festival, which runs concurrently with the program. Festival company members lend the students insights into the art of performing Shakespeare that the students then apply to their own performances of the Bard's work.

Love's Labor's Lost is set in the court of Navarre, where King Ferdinand and his chief courtiers have sworn off love and the pleasures of the flesh to study and learn. They are quickly thwarted by the arrival of the Princess of France and her ladies-in-waiting, all of whom fall for the wannabe scholars. Love, power, and a battle of the sexes collide in this charming Shakespearean classic.

The Love's Labor's Lost acting company includes Dan Yelle Baines, Mendel Baljon, Samuel Bennett, Jordi Bertran, Georgiana Cassell, Micah Fong, Eric Gabriel, Mallory Johnson, Kaelyn Kappes, Lauren "Lola" Maniaci, Jean Ervin Mayo, AR Morel, Marie Osterman, Athena Ramos-Hagle, Collin Seaman, Claire St. Marie, Christopher Torborg, and Isabella Rose Wagner.

Romance, magic, and a deserted island -- the final and most beloved masterpiece of Shakespeare's life, The Tempest, places the desire for revenge against the demands of love and captures the essence of the human condition with its compelling and timeless themes. Marooned on a distant island with his daughter Miranda, Prospero has spent 12 years perfecting his magic. When he learns that a ship bearing his old enemies is sailing near the island he raises a torrential storm, bringing within his grasp the enemies who robbed him of his dukedom. An enchanted tale filled with humor, romance and adventure, The Tempest is ultimately a tale of redemption and forgiveness.

The Tempest acting company includes Rachael Bell, Danielle Bongiovanni, Lolita Burgess, Sophie Cobarrubia, Shakura Davis, Gabriella "Brie" Edwards, Sarai Fuentes, Spencer Lynn, Phillip Magin, Gordon "Lane" Palhegyi, Annika Patton, Issie Prince, Davina Van Dusen, and Jake Wascher.

The design team includes Shelly Williams (Costume Design), Jack Bender (Lighting Design), Melanie Chen (Sound Design), Annika Patton (Composer), James T. Lane, Kristina Cobarrubia, and Davina Van Dusen (Choreography).
