Mainstreet Theatre Company Announces 11th Season

By:

MainStreet Theatre Company, which was recently included in American Theatre Magazine's list of "20 Theatres you should take your kids to", is happy to announce its 11th season of high quality performances specifically for children and families.

"This year, we'll be doing three classic stories that everyone knows and loves", said Mireya "Murry" Hepner, the company's producer. "I'm thrilled that some of the most highly regarded theatre artists working in Southern California will be back in Rancho Cucamonga, sharing their artistry with our school groups and families. Each production will be produced in MainStreet's unique way, full of the creativity, great production values and wonderful acting that our audiences have come to expect."

Each story in the 2016/2017 season is set in a different time period, but they all share great messages about discovery, kindness, and friendship.

The season schedule includes:

STUART LITTLE

Adapted by Joseph Robinette

Directed by Art Manke

October 1 - 16, 2016

The season begins with a charming adaptation of the beloved book by E.B. White about a mouse named Stuart who is born into an ordinary New York family. A cast of five will bring the story delightfully to life, changing characters and using elements of "story theatre" as we follow Stuart's many adventures in this classic tale about loyalty and friendship. Composer Deborah Wicks-La Puma (who wrote the great music for Elephant & Piggie's "We are in a Play",among many others, will be contributing original music to help move the story along. It's a great introduction to theatre for the youngest kids, best suited for grades K-3.

THE SECRET GARDEN

Based on the book by Frances Hodgson Burnett

Adapted by Pamela Sterling

Directed by Jessica Kubzansky

January 28 - February 12, 2017

A perfect anecdote to a dreary January is this timeless story, which has been a staple of children's literature for over 100 years. This award-winning adaptation stays true to the cherished book, where a cantankerous and orphaned Mary Lennox is taken away from her home in India to live with her reclusive uncle in the Yorkshire Moors. With the help of a robin (played by a puppet in the production) and new friends, Mary discovers a garden that changes her life, and that of those around her. Recommended for Ages 7 and up.

Stiles and Drewe's GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS

Music by George Stiles

Book & Lyrics by Anthony Drewe

Directed by Abigail Deser

Musical Director: Janice Rodgers Wainwright

April 28 - May 13, 2017

The spring brings a fun confection from the hilarious writing team behind the very popular The Three Little Pigs, a highlight of MainStreet's 2014/2015 season. In this light-hearted show, when the worlds of bears and people collide, everyone learns that girls and bears aren't as ferocious as they may seem! Featuring an unforgettable score and some contemporary twists to a classic story every child knows and loves, this humorous adaptation is "just right" for the whole family! Recommended for ages 4 and up.

Single tickets are $18.00 for Adults and $16.00 for children up to age 12, and seniors 60 and older. "Foundation Family Flex Packs", where tickets are only $12.00 if purchased in packs of 4 or more for the same performance are available for all MainStreet Theatre Company productions.
