James A. Blackman, III, Executive Producer of the CLOSBC proudly presents JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, the groundbreaking theatrical masterpiece by the legendary writing team of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center April 22 - May 10th. Directed by Stephanie A. Coltrin, award winning CLOSBC Artistic Director with Musical Director Alby Potts and Choreographer Marc Oka.

The first collaboration between Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber to be performed on the professional stage, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is one of the most popular and enduring works ever created for the musical theatre. Featuring such notable songs as Superstar, Everything's Alright and I Don't Know How to Love Him, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR earned five TONY nominations. Set in two acts, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR tells the story of the final seven days in The Life of Jesus of Nazareth. SUPERSTAR dramatizes Jesus' entry in Jerusalem, the unrest caused by his preaching and popularity, his betrayal by Judas, the trial before Pontius Pilate, and his ultimate crucifixion. Perpetually changing the face of musical theatre JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, will leave audiences captivated by its power. Jesus Christ Superstar is also a 1973, Oscar-nominated film adaptation of the rock opera. The film was directed by Norman Jewison and was filmed in Israel. Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson were nominated for two 1974 Golden Globe Award for their portrayals of Jesus and Judas, respectively. Though it attracted negative criticism from some religious groups, the film was generally well received.

The production has played on Broadway three times beginning in 1972 with the last one in 2000. It has played around the United States and around the world to audiences in 8 countries and languages. The CLOSBC has assembled an outstanding cast of Broadway stars and award winning actors with Eric Kunze as Jesus, Kevin Bailey as Pilate, Josh Tower as Judas, Harrison White as Herod, Ron Kellum as Peter, Jody Ashworth as Caiaphas and the uniquely talented actress and writer Karole Foreman as Mary.

Eric Kunze has starred on Broadway and in national tours for the better part of his career. His portrayal of Jesus has earned him reviews and awards across the country.
