Kimberly King joins the 20+ Broadway and California theatrical stars who will take to the Starlight stage for "Divas Do Broadway" on September 11 as part of a benefit concert for Starlight Musical Theatre. Kimberly, a well known San Diego television personality, will join them as the "divas" host for the evening.

When asked about joining Starlight and the divas concert, Kimberly beamed, "I'm looking forward to hosting Starlight's 'Diva's Do Broadway' showcase  this coming Saturday night at The Starlight Bowl in Balboa Park, where the 'Stars shine under the stars!'  You bring the chips & dip, we'll provide the Bowl & the Divas!"

Kimberly King always wanted to be 'On Broadway' and it wasn't until years later she actually was on 'Broadway,' albeit, 225 Broadway, the home of NBC San Diego!  Ah, the importance of 'ask and you shall receive'... and being specific!

King "cut her teeth" as a radio traffic reporter before she was hired as a television traffic reporter for NBC San Diego.  She's covered some ground ... on the air and in the air and learned to navigate the freeways, sky ways, and airwaves in and above San Diego aboard the TV news chopper.  She soon became a member of the "News in the Morning" team, and later hosted several shows of her own, including "Life Moments with Kimberly King" and "Streetside San Diego with Kimberly King."  She has been honored with two Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards.

In 2006, King was named San Diego Magazine's "50 People to Watch" and watching her is exactly what San Diegans have been doing for nearly 15 years when they've tuned into NBC 7/39, KPBS-TV, and now KFMB-TV/CBS 8.

A San Diego native, Kimberly studied music, dance, voice, and theatre at the San Diego High School of Creative and Performing Arts before attending USIU's School of Performing and Visual Arts College on a Musical Theatre scholarship. She was in good company, Kimberly attended school with Academy-Award-Winning Actor, Jamie Foxx and Starlight Musical Theatre's Artistic Director and Choreographer, Carlos Mendoza.  King graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication.

King's love of music recently came to life when she escorted and managed "The Voices of Prayze" Gospel Choir to Paris, France, where they sang backup vocals with Grammy-Award winning singer/songwriter, Jason Mraz during part of his 2009 European Tour.  "The Voices of Prayze" (VOP) can currently be heard on Mraz's newest CD, "We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things."

Kimberly enjoys spending time with her family at all San Diego sporting events, local theatre, and can most often be found on the sidelines, cheering for her two "munchkings" at their football, soccer, baseball and basketball games.  Kimberly is known for her generosity and commitment to several local non-profits, including United Cerebral Palsy, Christian Community Theatre, The Ronald McDonald House Charities, Orchestra NOVA, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Rady Children's Hospital, and The Immaculata Catholic Parish, and has hosted several events for the San Diego Police Department, CA Department of Justice and San Diego Fire/Rescue Association.

For the "Divas Do Broadway" concert the list of Broadway, Starlight starsand Californian stars will perform song selections from Broadway hit shows such as "Evita", "Jekyll & Hyde", "Wizard of Oz", "Follies", "Cats", "Little Shop of Horrors", "Phantom of the Opera", "Follies", "Annie" and many more during the two hour concert.

The list of 17 extraordinary women include Starlight and San Diego stars Bets Malone, Melinda Gilb, Leigh Scarritt and Eileen Bowman; Broadway and National touring stars Kim Huber, Karyn Overstreet and Susan De Leon; as well as other Starlight and California stars Rae Henderson, Katie Wilson, Crissy Guerrero, Debbie Prutsman, Karenssa LeGear, Danielle Forsgren, Alexis Grenier, Jennifer Wilcove, and Arianna Afsar.

Located in beautiful Balboa Park, Starlight Musical Theatre has been a unique San Diego tradition for 64 years. Starlight audiences can enjoy top notch San Diego professionals while sitting under the stars in a 4,200-seat outdoor amphitheatre. Built for the 1935-1936 California-Pacific Exposition, the Starlight Bowl became the home of Starlight Musical Theatre in 1946. Since that time, Starlight has presented over 133 musicals and is one of the oldest continuously-producing musical theatre companies in the United States.
