📍 Theatre: Penguin Rep Theatre
The over-arching message Lloyd Suh effectively communicates through his skillful writing and thematic development is that, as great as our homeland is in so many ways, the American dream is not necessarily the American reality for immigrants in ways that those of us born here are not privy to, and so cannot – or choose not to – sympathize with.
What a treat to return to one of my favorite theaters. Whenever I visit Penguin Rep, I know I can expect a production that is thoughtful, engaging and impeccably staged. Their seasons are consistently filled with fresh, compelling works, making every visit a rewarding theatrical experience.
Penguin Rep Theatre will present Lloyd Suh's THE HEART SELLERS, directed by Maria Mileaf, at its Stony Point, New York hay barn venue. The two-hander follows immigrant women from the Philippines and South Korea navigating new lives in 1973 America.
Penguin Rep Theatre, led by Joe Brancato and Andrew M. Horn, will present its 49th season in Stony Point, New York, featuring four mainstage productions, including two world premieres. The season also includes Off-Broadway transfers of 'Miracle on South Division' and 'The Steel Man', with performances at The Sheen Center and 59E59 Theaters respectively.
