WARNING: This production contains some vulgar language, mild nudity, and adult themes.
"With one foot in the buddy comedy of "Sideways" and another in the macho diabolism of Neil LaBute, Adam Rapp's riveting "Red Light Winter" oozes sexual intrigue and tension. Far and away the scribe's most commercial outing, this edgy, nudity-heavy drama continues Rapp's long-proven ability to articulate characters stuck on society's margins... [Red Light Winter] is a Gen X-friendly jaw-dropper."
-Chris Jones, Variety
Red Light Winter (a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2006) tells the story of Matt, a playwright on his last thread, and Davis, his successful best friend from college. They venture acorss Europe to Amsterdam, to participate in all the vices the city has to offer. In an attempt to console the struggling playwright, Davis introduces Matt to the mysterious Christina, an encounter that would change their lives forever.
"[Red Light Winter] will force the spectator to consider the line that exists between love and infatuation, and to examine the folly of placing faith in the memory of another..." says Artistic Director Jeff Church, "Mr Rapp's play is a contemporary depiction of how the most fleeting experiences can be the most extraordinary and meaningful. It is a play about the general absurdity that comes with being a directionless 20-going-on-30-something."
"An arresting study in melanchollic triangulation and obsessions dashed...Shrewd about the way certain male friendships exist on the knife edge of diaster."
-Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
"Spellbinding and haunting... Rapp... is the real thing - a poet in the grand tradition of 'la vie boheme.' Not by accident is his story full of homages to the erotically charged novels of Henry Miller; the generation-shaping Godard film, 'Breathless'; the enticing chansons of French cabaret artists; and the homegrown debauchery and heartbreak of Tom Waits."
- Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun-Times
