PPAC And WAITRESS Announce Pie Recipe Contest For Pie Day

In honor of National Pie Day, the Providence Performing Arts Center and WAITRESS are pleased to announce that the Theatre will be hosting a creative pie recipe contest, in partnership with The Providence Journal and WPRI CBS 12 The Rhode Show.

Creating recipes and baking pies allows Jenna, the show's protagonist, to express herself and offers a sweet escape from her life. Her magical creations have names like, "Marshmallow Mermaid Pie" and "A Little Wild, Wild Berry Pie." The show is looking for recipes that are inspired by Jenna's whimsical concoctions.

All interested participants are invited to email their recipes to cdipompo@ppacri.org no later than 5P EST on Friday, March 8. In your email, please include your recipe, contact information (name, phone, mailing address), and the source or creator of your recipe for crediting purposes. Three finalists will be selected. Each finalist will be asked to bake their pie and present it to a judging panel. Judges and specific dates will be announced at a later time.

The winner of the contest will receive four (4) tickets to see WAITRESS at the Providence Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, May 28 at 7P. Their recipe will be featured as an insert in the first 50 official WAITRESS cookbooks (Sugar, Butter, Flour: The Waitress Pie Book), sold at each performance of WAITRESS at the theatre. The Providence Journal will also print the winning receipe in their Food section.

WAITRESS will perform at the Providence Performing Arts Center May 28 - June 2, 2019. In Providence, WAITRESS is part of the Taco/White Family Foundation Broadway Series. Tickets for WAITRESS are on sale now at the PPAC Box Office (220 Weybosset Street in downtown Providence), online at www.ppacri.org and by phone at (401) 421-ARTS (2787). Tickets are $99 - $51; all ticket prices include a $3 per ticket restoration charge and are subject to change without notice.

Brought to life by a groundbreaking all-female creative team, this irresistible new hit features original music and lyrics by 6-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles ("Brave," "Love Song"), a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam), choreography by Lorin Latarro (Les Liasions Dangereuses, Waiting For Godot), and direction by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Hair, Pippin, Finding Neverland).

"It's an empowering musical of the highest order!" raves the Chicago Tribune. "WAITRESS is a little slice of heaven!" says Entertainment Weekly and "a monumental contribution to Broadway!" according to Marie Claire. Don't miss this uplifting musical celebrating friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.
