Andrea Marcovicci, the acclaimed singer and actress, has announced the release of her first CD of new material in five years, Smile, on her own label Andreasong. The new recoding her is based on her show of the same name that will be performed at New York’s famed Café Carlyle from October 2 to 27 after hit runs in Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco.
Smile opens with a pair of playful and uplifting standards “It’s Only A Paper Moon” and “Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries.” Other highlights include two numbers from Andrea’s unrecorded tribute to the nightclub legend “The Incomparable Hildegarde” – the ragtime shuffle of the “12th Street Rag” and the lilting “Umbrella Man.” Musical Director Shelly Markham joins Andrea for two jaunty duet medleys: the classics “Isn’t It A Lovely Day?” and “Pick Yourself Up,” followed by an exciting swing arrangement of “Zing A Litle Zong” and “Mairzy Doats” that appeals to the child in all of us.
Always a champion of new songwriters, she performs “Look At Those Eyes,” written expressly for Andrea by Robert Waldman and Phillip Namanworth when her daughter Alice was born, and then marks the debut recording of Babbie Green’s “(I Asked) The Moon.” Musical theater enthusiasts will appreciate her comic reading of “Shakespeare Lied” from the 1967 Broadway musical How Now, Dow Jones by Oscar winner Elmer Bernstein and Tony Award nominee Carolyn Leigh. An unexpected treat from Andrea is a tender reinterpretation of “Glitter In The Air” – a top 20 hit on the Billboard “Hot 100” chart for the three time Grammy Award winner Pink. This track is also available as an exclusive single download.
