This production is much more than just Shakespeare. Set in New York in 1821, TheAfrican Company Presents Richard III tells the true story of America's first black
theatre company as they struggle against odds of class, race and tradition to stage a
production of Richard III. At the heart of this story is the message of a people lifting
themselves up through art, showing that they too, can be kings and queens.
