Crave Theatre Company proudly presents “RED” by John Logan at Shaking the Tree Theatre from June 14th-30th!

Crave’s “RED” tackles the tumultuous creation of Mark Rothko’s famous Seagram murals—now experienced through the lens of ambitious female painters in 1958-1959.

Mark Rothko (played by Maia McCarthy) is at the creative pinnacle of her career, having just accepted the highest paying mural commission in history from the Four Seasons Restaurant—yet as she paints the Seagram murals, Rothko not only finds herself fighting the differing artistic philosophy of her assistant Ken (played by Kylie Jenifer Rose), but grappling with her own identity as an artist in the face of Consumerist America.

Crave Theatre is proud to present the Pulitzer-winning play Red, by John Logan, a portrait of Portland's own, Mark Rothko, to be staged at Shaking the Tree Theatre this upcoming June. This fresh interpretation, helmed by director Sarah Andrews, sees Rothko and his assistant Ken portrayed by women, bringing a uniquely feminist lens to an already layered, vibrant piece.
