Loving v. Virginia is a powerful opera based on the true story of Mildred and Richard Loving, whose fight for interracial marriage led to the landmark 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision that struck down prohibitive state laws. Celebrated composer Damien Geter, who has a deep connection to the themes of social justice and the Black diaspora, created this work which has garnered critical acclaim. Set to be featured in a future season of Portland Opera, this production will resonate with audiences as it explores love through adversity. Geter's innovative leadership as Music Director further emphasizes Portland Opera's commitment to evolving the art form.
