PESCADOR/FISHERMAN
Silencio Blanco (Chile)
Contemporary puppet theatre returns
February 1-2 & 8-9, 2019
Venue: Imago Theatre, 17 SE 8th Ave, Portland
Educational Outreach Programming presented in collaboration with Young Audiences Inc.
“…these young creators take another step along the silent and romantic path of rescuing the beauty of simple, everyday things.” – Bio Bio (Chile)
Chilean contemporary puppetry ensemble Silencio Blanco returns to Portland after their celebrated Spring 2017 début. Did you experience Chiflón: The Silence of Coal, with its unforgettable images of miners’ wives waiting for the return of their husbands? Come back for more with Pescador (Fisherman), the company’s puppet essay on the nearly extinct character of the artisanal fisherman. In Pescador, man once again encounters the immensity of nature in pursuit of a trade that’s been nearly forgotten in the age of trawling and industrial fishery. In Silencio Blanco’s visually arresting trademark style, vaguely figurative, simple papier-mâché puppet figures co-exist with actor-puppeteers, dancing their way through stormy seas. “By far one of the best pieces of art I've ever seen.” – Portland audience member on Chiflón by Silencio Blanco, Spring 2017
Age Recommendation: 8+
IMAGE DESCRIPTION: [The main character, a white papier-mache puppet, from Pescador.]
