From October to December of 2015, Miracle Theatre Group aka Milagro, the Northwest's premier Latino arts and culture organization, was awarded 11 grants totaling $56,106 to support Milagro's artistic programming & community engagement efforts, and for general operating support.
Milagro was awarded a $500 advised fund grant from the Kelly Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation for general support. The Jackson Foundation trustees awarded Milagro a grant in the amount of $2,500 to support operations for the 2015-2016 season. Maria Jackson, whose husband Charles "Sam" Jackson started the Oregon Journal in 1902, created The Jackson Foundation to assure that a substantial part of the Jackson estate would continue after her death to promote the health and welfare of the citizens of Oregon, with special emphasis on the Portland metropolitan area. Milagro received a $2,000 Community Cultural Participation Grant from the Multnomah County Cultural Coalition to support our 2016 community programs, including Mujeres, Latino Artists eXchange/Intercambio de artistas Latinas and Posada Milagro. The Coalition, composed of citizen volunteers, is funded through the Oregon Cultural Trust which supports over 1,200 arts, heritage, and humanities organizations across Oregon. The Multnomah County Cultural Coalition's mission is to foster a community that is opportunity rich in cultural offerings, increasing the likelihood of cultural participation among the broadest possible spectrum of county residents. In the first 50 years, the NEA awarded $5 billion in grants to recipients in every state and U.S. jurisdiction, the only arts funder in the nation to do so. On December 8, the NEA announced awards totaling more than $27.6 million in its first funding round of fiscal year 2016. The Art Works category supports the creation of work and presentation of both new and existing work, lifelong learning in the arts, and public engagement with the arts through 13 arts disciplines or fields. Milagro received a grant from the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation in the amount of $2,500 to support a "Healthy Relationships" residency program in Jackson County at South Medford High School, in conjunction with the touring production of Broken Promises. Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians has a long and proud history of giving back to the communities in which they live and work. Each year the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation makes grants to eligible non-profit organizations in communities in Coos, Deschutes, Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, and Lane counties. Since its beginning, the Cow Creek Foundation has awarded more than $14 million dollars in grants to community non-profit organizations in the seven county homeland territory. The Oregon Arts Commission awarded Milagro an Arts Build Communities Grant in the amount of $5,000 to support a bilingual arts and healthy education residency in Umatilla County in conjunction with our touring production of Broken Promises. With federal funds from the National Endowment for the Arts and state support, the Commission allocated $190,000 to 31 projects for community arts projects across the state. Arts Build Communities (ABC) grants support the arts in local communities and the involvement of the arts and artists in community development and cultural tourism.
