Lucid Stage Presents THOM PAIN (BASED ON NOTHING) 2/10-20

By: Feb. 17, 2011

Lucid Stage will present the Maine premiere of Thom Pain (Based on Nothing) by Will Eno, February 10-20. Lucid Stage founder Adam Gutsgell will direct, and local Equity actor James Noel Hoban will play the title role in this one-person show.

THE STORY: He's just like you, except worse. He is trying to save his life, to save your life-in that order. In his quest for salvation, he'll stop at nothing, be distracted by nothing, except maybe a piece of lint, or the woman in the second row.

This will be a production of firsts; the first show produced by Lucid Stage, the first presentation of the play on a Maine stage, and the first solo show for the performer. James Noel Hoban has appeared on stages throughout the region for over 15 years, performing with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, The Theater at Monmouth, Portland Stage Company, Mad Horse Theatre, Penobscot Theater and American Renaissance Theatre.

"Astonishing in its impact. . . . One of the treasured nights in the theatre that can leave you both breathless with exhilaration and, depending on your sensitivity to meditations on the bleak and beautiful mysteries of human experience, in a puddle of tears . . . Thom Pain is at bottom a surreal meditation on the empty promises life makes, the way experience never lives up to the weird and awesome fact of being. But it is also, in its odd, bewitching beauty, an affirmation of life's worth." -Charles Isherwood, The New York Times

Performances are Thursdays at 7:30, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 and Sundays at 7:00. Tickets are $15, $10 for students and seniors.es.
