Lakewood Theatre Company Presents The Baker's Wife 10/22-23
The Lost Treasures Collection is a new series of rarely performed musical gems presented in concert/cabaret version on Lakewood Theatre Company's Side Door stage. Each show in the series is presented script-in-hand, with minimal staging. No sets, no props (free from the usual trappings of a fully staged production).
Our inaugural series of plays includes The Baker's Wife (October 22-23), Cyrano (January 7-8, 2011) and Greenwillow (April 22-23, 2011).
First show in the series is The Baker's Wife, performing for two nights only, Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23 at 7:00 PM. Based on the 1974 film La Femme du Boulanger by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono, this musical features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Wicked) and book by Joseph Stein (Fiddler on the Roof). The production is directed by Ron Daum and Sydney Jill Lehman is musical director. Kurt Herman is the production's lighting designer and Kay Vega is the producer.
The Story: A small town finds peace and pleasure in the bread of the newly arrived baker and his attractive young wife. When she is lured away by a handsome young gigolo, the baker loses all zest for life and baking, throwing the Provencal community into chaos. Songs include: "Chanson," "Proud Lady," "Where is the Warmth?" and the smash hit "Meadowlark."
The cast features Portland metro artists Darren Hurley, Rebecca Teran, Kurt Raimer, Anne Dufresne, Bobby Jackson, Sue Ellen Christensen and Mike Dederian. Musicians for the production include pianist Sydney Jill Lehman and Kurt Crowley.
Ticket prices are $18 for all seats. The whole series of three musicals is available for a subscription package of $50.
